How likely is Iran's direct involvement in Iraq?

I think that Iran definitely wants to mobilize the Iraqi Shias against Sunni extremists like the IS.

Iran has no business with Mahdi army, as far as I know, it mostly supports Badr brigades and Saraya which both of them have very close relations with government and both were involved in battles against IS effectively, like Amerli.

Maybe that's the case, but I was talking about the worst case scenario, not current situation. What if IS attacks Baghdad and captures half of it for example? It's very unlikely, but it may happen. Would Iraqis still have problems with Iran getting involved?

Recruits/volunteers should have joined IA instead, but with the current situation it's understandable they don't trust the commanders of the army anymore, anyway the militias eventually fade back to civillian life after the war.

Fall of Baghdad would result in many things, western involvement as well so I have no idea what they would think of Iranian involvement. But this is unlikely, they have satellites and all kinds of views/intel on the surrounding area's. To take on a city this big they would note ISIS vechiles massing up ( which they did in the case of Mosul ) and they'd take action in this case.


Anyway the US SF team in Baghdad assessing the Iraqi military has gained information, some new reports reveal stuff. Very true, especially when you note that some groups such as ISOF are very professional whilst another is trash, all due to who commands it.

The only Iranians who should risk dying for Iraq fighting IS there should be volunteers. If individuals want to go and fight then they should be given some training and equipment to go an join Iraqi militias or Kurdish ones.

Iraqis need to save themselves and learn how to live together, or to go their separate ways and learn how to live as neighbours. Iranian armies cant save Iraq from itself.

Why should Iranians die for Arabs that want to have their little Caliphate? Iraqi Sunnis dont want to have a so-called 'Shi'a' majority government or autonomous Kurdistan? Thats fine. Let them have IS instead.

No we shouldnt involve ourselves directly but train,fund and arm the local militias wether Sunni or Shia to fight the terrorists.

Never should we put our soldiers life at risk for some foreign country (despite having cultural or religious ties). Only country that Iranian soldiers should die for is Iran.
