How Japan getting caught in the dilemma between the US/Russia conflict

China must have a nuclear arsenal of 5,000 warheads with nuclear triads. Then get rid of the no-first-use nuclear policy.

Large nuclear weapons arsenal with triads is the ultimate deterrence. Chinese leadership has been too naive to concentrate on the conventional weaponry and not giving nuclear weapons first priority. Conventional military isn't a big enough cost to the US to intervene in Asian conflicts.

Not true, during the development of JL-2, our development team was known for not sleeping for several days.

The development of the nuclear weapon is absolutely PRC's first priority, just we don't keep thing in high profile.

Yeah, the Chinese leadership was once naive about that, but they have quickly changed their mind after 1989, and the events from 1996 and 1999 have even accelerated the development of JL-2.

That's kind of hardcore. I' mean they can have three teams of scientist working 24/7.

And of course, the exact numbers of nukes we have is a national secret.

But I know they understand the importance of having a large nuclear arsenal. Even we know how important it is, so surely they know it too.

No sleep for several days? A feat of human determination and zeal, no doubt.

Without their sacrifice, there would be no China's achievement in today.

One example of Chinese technological expertise (and dedication) would be their space program. Can you imagine, my friend, how much we could accomplish if Chinese, Russian, American, Japanese and Indian space programs were to put their heads together (work to gether).

Perhaps I am dreaming when I wish for such things, when the nations would be able to put aside political differences for a common goal. Ah, what a world we would live in....

That would save a huge amount of money for sure.

But of course:

Chinese exclusion policy of NASA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some American professors protested this because even their own students were getting locked out of any premises that has anything to do with NASA, even for basic lectures.

We are even locked out of cooperation on the International Space Station. That's why we had to build our own space station.

Meanwhile, America uses Russian rockets to send their astronauts to space!

The private company SpaceX will pretty much make it very independent of Russian rockets. So the Russians proclaiming they can deny the U.S. access to the ISS is mute.

SpaceX Breaks Ground on Private Spaceport in Texas - Yahoo News

SpaceX holds a $1.6 billion deal to fly 12 robotic cargo missions to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA using the company's Dragon capsule and Falcon 9 rocket. And last week NASA announced that it had awarded SpaceX $2.6 billion to ferry astronauts to and from the space station with an upgraded version of Dragon, beginning in 2017. (NASA also gave Boeing $4.2 billion in another astronaut-taxi contract.)

But SpaceX's ISS cargo and crew missions won't blast off from the new Texas spaceport, which is designed just for commercial satellites. Resupply flights to the orbiting lab — three of which SpaceX has already completed, with a fourth underway at the moment — will continue to launch from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, while crewed missions will lift off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, which is right next door.

I couldn't have said it better. In fact not just China, but in all communist one party states, the Party comes before/is above the Nation. its the case with North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Cuba and all other communist countries.:bounce:

@mike2000

Conversely, these kind of regime will not hesitate to start an external war in order alleviate the pressure from domestic issue, if the issue is so devastating that could collapse the regime.

I hope your right.

Because if anyone thinks conventional weapons will be enough to deter the US, then they are utterly delusional. Conventional weapons can never inflict a high enough cost for them to back off. Only a large and sophisticated nuclear force can inflict a high enough cost.

Russia always concentrates on its nuclear weapons because it is only nuclear weapons that can make going to war with Russia too high a cost for anyone. Conventional weaponry is far too costly to develop. Nuclear weapons is the easiest route to achieve sufficient deterrence.

The no-first-use nuclear policy is a ridiculous rule since the US can use conventional war to destroy the Chinese nuclear force and since China has that NFU policy, China cannot deter the US from any conventional or nuclear war.

China must have a nuclear arsenal the size of the US nuclear arsenal. Having nuclear weapons and having a small nuclear arsenal is not a sufficient deference. It's naive.

China must establish MAD scenario with the US. That is, if the US wants to go to war with China, US mainland will face complete and total annihilation. If China is going down, China will take the US down with it. That's what Mutually Assured Destruction is. You can knock me out, but I can knock you out.

China must invest the majority of the budget on ballistic (ICBM, IRBM, MRBM, SRBM) and cruise missiles (land-launched, air-launched, ship-launched and sub-launched), SSBN (SLBM) and modern strategic bombers.

Quantity is very important too.

In fact, the US didn't have as much of available nuclear warheads as you thought, their nuclear arsenal is facing the serious aging problem.

Projected US nuclear weapons spending hits $1 TRILLION -- just five years after Obama's Nobel Peace Prize | Daily Mail Online

But this doesn't mean that China will take a chance of keeping a small nuclear arsenal.

When China is spending more money to develop the newer DF-41 and JL-3, don't expect that we will only build few of these expensive missiles, and everyone with a basic knowledge about the cost control must know that the larger quantity of production will cover the development cost of the product.

China is developing the more powerful monster ICBM/SLBM with larger quantity means that China's nuclear stockpile is not small at all.

Wow 1.6 billion, Indian can built the same for 20 bucks. Indian reach to Mars by themselves no NASA help lol. NASA built their satellite and rocket launcher for Indian paint job, and they laughing at NASA. Why US wasting 1.6 billion, go ask Indian to built 20 bucks space craft. Lol

The US tricks others into agreeing to reduce their nuclear arsenal (like Russia) because the US knows it has overwhelming conventional advantage.

Russia was naive and agreed to reduce their nuclear arsenal while the US only said in words to reduce their nuclear warheads but probably hid its active warheads that was supposed to be destroyed to trick the Russians.

Just like US tricked both Russia and China in Libya when both agreed to give UNSC approval for a no-fly-zone. But anyone with a brain knew it was just an excuse to kill Gaddafi and topple his government. Same WMD nonsense was used in Iraq to topple the Iraqi government. Same excuse is used now in Syria to fight ISIS when its clear they will kill Assad and topple his government.

DO NOT FALL FOR AMERICAN TRICKERY!

Most early Cold War nukes are utterly useless right now.

I think the only useful nukes for the US to preserve should be W76/W87/W88 in a total quantity about 4000.

To renew these toys, it will already cost them more than trillion. So overall the US will spend more than trillion in order to preserve 4000 nukes.
