How Gandhi’s support for Khilafat Movement made a separate homeland for Indian Muslims inevitable

Yes, they match. I didn't state that the abolishment of the caliphate came immediately after the end of the world war. 1922 and 1923 are some time away after the end, but the abolishment of the caliphate, and subsequent lone support of the Modern Republic by Jinnah and his followers, had a large play.

But when it did came, it sent out a wave.

If you go back in time when information traveled slower than a camel it took quite a while for muslims all over the world to digest that caliphate was over and the world has entered the age of nation states.

The world had barely survived the war and its easy to write your own history these days.

Do you think it took 10 years for the news in 1922 to reach the Indian subcontinent? You realize, this is the 20th century, not the 8th or 9th, right?

And we are not talking about muslims all over the world, we are talking about muslims in the indian subcontinent.

The news travelled fast enough apparently because in 1921, when the Turks started getting a more favorable diplomatic position, the movement began dying down.

And completely came to end when in 1924, the role of the caliph was fully abolished by Turkey.

It also travelled fast enough for Iqbal to write about the new Republic.

It's easy nowadays for people to imagine what they like and write about history, rather than reading into what our founding fathers had said.

If one ever reads Iqbal's book, and his defining of Islam as neither promoting Imperialism, not Naionalism, but promoting a commonwealth of nations; and his views on Shariah law and the modern changing world; it would be an absolute slap in our faces as to what we have become.
These muslim leaders promoted an amazing change, a change it took the westerners 50 years from the 1920s to realize.

In 1920s Muslims were either busy in British Army or Khilafat faction or sending aid to Sharif of Makkah Hussein or fighting colonial imprint on religion and culture.

The political situation of the subcontinent in 1920s was not stable enough till 30s where it was more clearer that the Raj will not last long and politics shifted to nation making.

By 1930s Turkish Republic was already there and Ataturk was seen as a Turkish leader who Jinnah held in great esteem.

Remarks of Maulana Najmuddin Islahi may be noted. (Muktubat-e-Sheikhul Islam, Vol. III, Page 141):

“We regard as a Shar’i crime to give a higher status to Iqbal than that of a mere poet and a philosopher. We have carefully examined his works. There is no denying the fact that there are hundreds and thousands of his verses which may be considered as useful; nevertheless among them there are numberous such verses which openly hit Islam and Islamic way of thing king--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Pakistan the principle of law making can be adopted in the light of Iqbal’s thought because the Islam on which Pakistan has ‘been founded is another name of the philosophy of Iqbal.”

This is how these traitors despised our heroes, and today we have fallen to the ideology of the same traitors.

It is sad Iqbal didn't live long enough to see his dream come true, and that Jinnah didn't live long enough to leave his state in fulfillment. But we need to read their works and their philosophical and ideological ideas.

How can they be busy in Khilafat faction if news isn't resching them. Use some sense. Thanks.

Iqbal can be interpreted any which way one likes. That's the beauty of any Kalam

Well you must also account for another small event that happened between 1933 and 1945 and another cold war till 1980s.

Muslims also never saw peace after 1920s either as both common wealth perspective nor nation states.

New countries get carved out every decade in the Muslim world

Ottomon and Mughals had contacts. tell me why mughals are not treated as bad for not accepting caliphate?

Sub continent funded all sides of war like it has throughout history
