How did China transform from a poor country into the world's second largest economy?

China is unique case of rapid progress for a large country with large population. China does not have internal challenges that plague many nations. Credit goes to the Chinese people for not challenging the authority and working with them in creating a better lives for themselves.

Many small countries developed in short period of time because they acquired capabilities in many fields like south Korea, Singapore and Japan.

India is growing at 6-7% but still a laggard when compared to China. Sustaining the growth and keeping up with the latest technological innovations and keeping relevant in this connected world will be a challenge as we move forward.

Chinese system Benefits:
  • Good educated people are hired from start and only hard working people get promoted based on performance on job
  • If a person has a SON or daughter , they don't automatically get to be in group that work in government they have to work their asses off to be selected by NATIONAL human resource department to get hired by Government
  • The problem which Pakistan has with Zardari and his son , or Nawaz and his daughter etc wanting power cannot happen in China. Becasue it is very difficult to come into power unless you do social work for 25 years
  • Chinese system very simple if you are not educated , don't think you will make good administrator , if you write books or songs , it is best you focus on that career don't worry about Government and Policy. if you are Doctor please work in Hospital and help people. If you are hollywood actor or do circus work in circus or Hollywood you will not make a good politician unless you have good education and experience from Business
Also important point to note is EXTREMELY SEVERE penalty of death if any one in Government power commits corruption

  • It is common to hear story , China punished businessman threw dangerous chemicals from his company in River by Death
  • No one in China gets to leave country if they comitted CRIME against people of China i.e Money laundering or theft even if you have cancer you will serve your sentence !!!

Also Shenzhen was created because it is next to Hong Kong.
No. Shenzhen was created to attract Taiwanese investment.

Today, one million to two million Taiwanese still work on the Chinese mainland.

Taiwanese experts were at the heart of China's industrialization and they are still important today.

For example, TSMC will begin operation of its 16nm plant in China in 2018. A new generation of mainland Chinese engineers will be trained in advanced semiconductor production. SMIC is only at 28nm today.

In the 80s and 90s Hong Kong's influence was huge, almost all joint ventures in Beijing have some connections with Hong Kong. Shenzhen is next to Hong Kong, not Taiwn, hope you know that. Hong Kong's investment in China from 1979-2007 accounts for over half of the nation's whole foreign investment based on the official statistics. Taiwan's role was very minimal, Hong Kong really helped mainland China. That's the basic fact, ask around the people who went through that age and find it out.

Hong Kong was a plastic toy manufacturer and a banking haven. Today, Hong Kong remains a finance-oriented banking city. There is no technology in Hong Kong.

Taiwan's largest machine tool manufacturer is Victor Machine Tool, which was founded in 1954. Many Taiwanese machine tool manufacturers opened up factories on mainland China. Today, China is a powerhouse in manufacturing machine tools. That knowledge and expertise came from Taiwan.

How did poor and backwards 1978 China become the world's largest manufacturer of machine tools? The answer is simple. Mainland China acquired the expertise from machine-tool World Power #7 Taiwan. Taiwan had been manufacturing machine tools since 1954. Taiwan has always been a world power in machine tool manufacturing for decades. That was not true for newcomer mainland China.

If you'll notice, Hong Kong is way down at rank #28. Hong Kong is a joke in machine tool manufacturing. Hong Kong owns virtually no patents and its presence in the machine tool industry is non-existent.

China: $24 billion machine tool production
Taiwan: $4.9 billion
Hong Kong: $0.2 billion

Mainland China did not learn machine tool technology from Hong Kong, where machine tool manufacturing is almost non-existent.

Mainland China learned machine-tool technology from Taiwan, which has always been a top-ten manufacturer for decades.

We are talking about when China first opened her door and embarked this development policy it was Hong Kong's money and businesses which fueled the development engine. Argue with those official numbers not me.

I've already told you those were Taiwanese shell companies. Taiwanese companies were registered in Hong Kong anonymously. The money and technology came from Taiwan via registration in Hong Kong.

After 1971, Taiwan earned large trade surpluses. Hong Kong is a joke city-state. It is too small to generate capital.

Today, Taiwan still earns a huge trade surplus of almost $50 billion per year.

Hong Kong sold plastic toys. There was little surplus capital in Hong Kong.

The money for mainland China's industrialization came from Taiwan's trade surpluses with the world and it was funneled through Hong Kong (a mere city).

Taiwan used to sell digital cameras. Next, Taiwan moved to IBM PC clones. Afterwards, Taiwan moved into notebook computers. After that, Taiwan moved in logic chip manufacturing.

All these decades, Taiwan plowed its surplus capital and technology into 1.4 billion-population China. It was Taiwan's massive trade surpluses and continuous technological improvement that pulled China along into the modern industrial age.

Could be US shell companies or whatever, for things hard to prove, let's stick to the official figures.

No. It was not US companies. The US government would not allow US companies to help China modernize. Only after Taiwanese companies have introduced the technology to mainland China then US companies may follow.

Taiwan has introduced the most advanced logic chip manufacturing onto mainland China. South Korea and Intel only build simplistic memory chips. The trailblazer is still Taiwan in foreign-invested technology.

You cannot dispute that Taiwanese notebook computers, digital cameras, logic chips, etc. were all manufactured on mainland China.
