Israel is one of the very few true democracies in the Middle East and all of SW Asia. The success in science, business, the arts and in general of Israel as a nation speaks for itself. Israel's popularly elected Parliament, the Kinesset, has Arab Muslim Members elected to it. Sharriah Law is permitted to be practiced inside Israel, under Israeli Law. Sharria Law as practiced there is not the radical, make it up as you go along to try to dominate, control, and put down innocent people type of law being masqueraded in the guise of religion by the al Qaida and Taliban in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and elsewhere. If Islam means peace then Sharia in it's true form is itself peaceful and non-violent as practiced by Muslims in Israel.
The Jews and all Arabs are all of the same blood, that of Abraham. Historic bickering over Ishmael and Isaac led to the division of religions at the time of Muhammad when he left the early Christian church at Medina and founded what we know today as Islam.
Who would be greater and who would be lesser involve are issues of false pride, arrogance, and pettiness but have had major impact on world history.
The World in general and the US in specific defend the right of Israel and her people to exist. The UN 1947 Resolution creating the modern state of Israel allowed for an equally proud nation of Palestine. Arab bickering and resistance has lessened the land and rewards of Palestinian statehood vs. what the 1947 UN Resolution required.
A peaceful resort to the original UN Resolution authorizing the creation to the two side by side equal states would be a peaceful way to end this man made dilemma.
See the list of how nations voted for the 1947 UN Resolution creating Israel for a list of who voted for and against Israel. Pakistan, then itself a new nation, voted against the creation of Israel, which was a mistake as Paksitan is not an ethnic Arab state.
God Almighty through Abraham and his wife Sarah and through Abraham's bondswoman Hagar the Egyptian created two sons of Abraham. Both are valid sons, both have standing in our Holy Bible. But God's chosen people in our Bible are the Jews...but God's love and protection and care for all other people is likewise provided for through the descendants of Ishmael. Both Ishmael, born of Hagar, and Isaac, born of Sarah, are blessed of God, as are all their descendants.
Here is a summary of UN Resolution 181 from 1947 and how the world voted on it:
After considerable debate, the United Nations General Assembly decided on partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem to be an internationalized city. The plan enjoyed the warm support of the Soviet Union and its Eastern European satellite governments. Josef Stalin hoped that the new Jewish state would be a bulwark against British imperialism. Owing to the support of President Truman, and despite State Department advice and Department of Defense pressure, the United States likewise supported the partition plan, and ensured its passage.
Meeting in Lake Success N.Y. November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly approved the partition plan, with 33 votes in favor, 13 against, 10 abstentions and one absent (see list at end of document).
The Palestinians and Arabs felt that it was a total injustice to ignore the rights of the majority of the population of Palestine. The Arab League and Palestinian institutions rejected the partition plan, and formed volunteer armies that infiltrated into Palestine beginning in December of 1947.
A compromise, following the intervention of Haim Weizmann with President Truman, gave Beersheba and the city of Yaffo to the Arab state.
Resolution 181 also declared Jerusalem to be a corpus separatum - a separate body, to be run under an international UN administration. The area to be run in this way included all of Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Beit Sahour, to encompass the Christian holy sites.
