additional $8.5 billion of investment from Beijing as part of the countries' joint energy, transport and infrastructure plan.

That is on top of the $46-billion CPEC project, which focuses on road building and energy infrastructure to end chronic power shortages in Pakistan and to link China's landlocked north-west with the deep-water port Gwadar on the Arabian Sea.

"This has now all been approved, so this is an additional $8.5 billion to the $46 billion we had already, so we are now close to $55 billion," said Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

Trade activities formally commenced on November 13 after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif welcomed the first large shipment of Chinese goods through the renovated port of Gwadar.

The trade caravan reached Gwadar from China under the strict security cover of Pakistan Army and other security agencies.

Agree but that's what American wants other sides China and Russia want to roll as Uncle Sam always be rude and even threatens both states to use its influence in the region. Japan and Korea still big allies of USA and both Russian and Chinese have huge conflicts, Philippine was ally of USA as well but current head of state already shows middle finger to Americans. It's time for play more aggressive as the biggest threat of USA to put some sanctions on some one not more working. Russian does need to get back their influence and power like before and be ally with China including Pakistan Turkey Sri Lanka etc just give them a boost.

i still don't know what would they need gwader.

Presence in a strategic geo location, safe and secure access, and influence in a game changing region matters...................... its not about transporting goods only ............ otherwise why would one need a base at a place like Djibouti?

For Pakistan that is somehow my own personal wish come true ................. hedging your own peace and security by locking other powers in your area for their interests. If Russia really becomes part of this then Balochistan will soon be a prosperous secure region, free of insurgencies ............ because Russians are the ones who started it in the first place. Secondly Russia, Pakistan and China are soon to meet to discuss Afghanistan.
