The funny thing was when he said minorities of India are the torch bearers of secularism.

It's highly local. In Calcutta, too, there were well-demarcated Shia areas and Sunni areas, and the commotion in those days was between the two sects, with everyone looking on apprehensive, even terrified. Strangely, the Shia were the aggressors.

However, the UP is different. The Hindus, particularly the OBCs, have been stirred up from 2014 onwards (remember the Muzaffarpur riots?) and are spoiling for a fight.

The Sunni-Shia bits are different. Kanpur and Lucknow are also particularly vulnerable to communal trouble of this sort, and riots in Lucknow at Muharram have been known for very many years.

Funny thing, In my teens and in Uni, I used to think mandal politics were the worst thing to happen to India.
I still in some corner of my brain hold to that belief even now.

From a political POV, Mandal politics gave so much power to OBC's that they became politically dominant. Much of the Hindutva Brigade and the Sanghi politics has long since passed away from the upper caste to OBC's.
Without Mandal politics, the current political dominance of BJP would not have been possible.

This is a great lesson for all those who look at what happens NOW, in the context of NOW and do not gauge the impact it could have decades from now.

I will put Demo and GST in this category as well.

I know there is a strong martial race superiority angle to the jibe, but really in my book being money wise is a good trait.

It will save India more than her fighting prowess will.

Because it will save India from herself.
