Well, earlier in british term, tribal religion of north-east were termed hindu but although looked similar but ethnically different. And many sub branches are there who believe in some hindu gods but system complete different than sanatan dharmaThose who born in Indian subcontinent are Hindus. Its a geographical identity. Thats why it is called " Hindustan ".
Hinduism is a vast cultural civilization with different faiths. It doesn't matter what faith you have , your identity is relevant with geographical Hinduism.

Ganga is the most sacred river in all of the different hindu religions. Angkor wat also has description of gangaIn fact one of the largest Hindu Temples is in Cambodia - Angkor Wat. I notice no Gangadeshi's ever mention this? Wonder why?
