Launching an attack on minorities, Tarique Rahman, joint convener of Bangladesh Gono Odhikar Parishad and a top aide to Nurul Haque Nur, said that scriptures of the Hindu religion do not offer any moral teaching and are **** texts. Nurul Haque Nur has been leading the charge in the opposition party’s effort to overthrow the government in Bangladesh.
https://www.indiatoday.in/author/sahidul-hasan-khokonBy Sahidul Hasan Khokon: With the national election in Bangladesh looming ahead early next year, a band of ardent hardliners, backed by militant outfit Jamaat-E-Islami and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, mostly youths, have launched attacks targeting Hindus, alongside peddling smears against the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
Nurul Haque Nur, vehemently backed by militant outfit Jamaat-e-Islami, has been leading the charge in the opposition party’s effort to overthrow the government without participating in the election. But some of his associates have unleashed a barrage of smears against Hindus and India, ostensibly for the secular stance led by Sheikh Hasina.
“Scriptures of the Hindu religion do not offer any moral teaching — all the religious scriptures are **** scripts,” Tarique Rahman, joint convener of Bangladesh Gono Odhikar Parishad and a top aide to Nurul Haque Nur, said in a Facebook live, expressing his strong abhorrence towards Hindus.
This video has been shared on Facebook by netizens with many comparing this statement with a similar call for “wiping out” Hindus by Jamaat leaders in their bid to prevent the birth of this country from Pakistan back in 1971.
Nuru openly stressed 'backdoor political manipulations' as the way to achieve power rather than face elections.
JOURNALISTS ARE SLAVES'
Nuru, who reportedly conducted the Facebook Live from Saudi Arabia, also came down heavily on the free press, describing journalists as “slaves”.
In the same video, he warned journalists not to raise questions over his 'mission'.
“Yes, I have indulged in a conspiracy with foreign intelligence agencies, including Mossad .. In my bid to unseat the government, I held a meeting with Mendi N Safadi, a Mossad agent, to hatch a conspiracy to unseat this government”, Nuru can be heard boasting on the Facebook Live.
From instigating and attacking minorities to doing Facebook live alleging India’s external intelligence abducted him to defend war criminals, mostly from Jamaat, to demean war crimes committed by the Pakistan Army in 1971, Nuru, under the banner of his platform, along with his followers has hit many new lows to serve radical pro Pakistan agenda.
During the grisly spate of attacks during Durga Puja in 2021 across the country carried out by fundamentalist forces, Nuru’s platform in the port city reportedly swooped on minorities back then.
Being backed by Jamaat and the BNP on field, this band of youth has resorted to extensive usage of social media, taking anti-Hindu slurs to a new low.
Currently, Nur is leading an opposition platform named 'Gono Odhikar Parishad' with Reza Kibria, another controversial figurehead with no solid public backing at the grassroots, leading the alliance.
In a bid to justify Jamaat, a party that carried out systematic genocide five decades back, Nuru made an outrageous statement “Jamaat realised in 1971 that Bangladesh will be invaded by India if it gets independence”. The statement was slammed by war veterans as well.
BNP, JAMMAT ATROCOTIES ON MINORITIES
With minorities, who currently account for below 10 per cent of the country, although actively participated in the liberation war, successive regimes led by BNP Jamaat targeted this community. Land grabbing, looting of valuables, sexual assaults and other atrocities have been inflicted on them for decades under regimes led by BNP and Jamaat.
The scrapping of secularism and installation of Islam as a state religion through constitutional amendments by military dictators, including Gen Zia and Gen Ershad, set in motion a grisly spree of state- sponsored troubles for minorities.
Even between 2001 and 2006, the BNP-Jamaat combine, during their last tenure on power, raised militants that helped the party unleash a reign of terror against minorities almost countrywide.
