High costs stall Army's plans on China border

Some Indian is thinking that China is on the same level as India technologically.

This is the kind of IQ produced by third world "superpower" India.... who thinks China = India.

then what happened in 1967? :D

you call reverse engineering old soviet and Russian technology being technological?

Still, finance ministry is right. We should go for economic development and not for spending too heavily on roads in areas where investment can't be recovered. I agree, more roads in the borders will help us raise the threshold for nuclear deterrence, so that minor misadventures from Chinese side can be extinghuished on the border itself. After all we never wants things to go nuclear.

Though, my belief is that eventually China (if sense prevails) wants to use those roads to sell it's goods to us, via a land route.
They can't justify those roads trying to sell to Bhutan or Nepal.

We should be open to that at a later time. Trade with Bangladesh, Myanmar and China is good for development of North-East.
Look my stand on developing infrastructure in border states like JnK and Arunachal has nothing to do with military. Without infrastrucutre there can't be anything in these states. These states need to be connected with rest of country so that they can also feel the taste of development.
I don't understand ow you can achieve economic development without infrastructure ? I mean what are you suggesting ? Its not possible, even if we manage to show development its not possible to maintain it. also i am not saying trade with China or Myanmar but we can defeinitely connect the whole NE with India via West Bengal by including Bangladesh. Bangladeshi port can form a source for these state and so can Myanmars new port which india is making. These states still don't have basic infrastructure and connectivity to carry on normal domestic trade forget about trade with China.

Yes, so as far as it is infrastructure investment (for roads) ... India needs tons of it. But all that is regular developmental expenditure with Army having nothing to do with it. And these economically viable roads pay for themselves over a period of time.

For specific devopment in the border region, Army needs to plan and get it done (even if the border roads do not have much economic value). Let's not mix the infrastructure development for economic development with non-economic developments (like the ones China is doing across the Arunachal border), primarily for military reasons. The thing we don't need to emulate them at all.

Now, if China is not able leverage those roads for trades, it risks losing the entire investment. In a few years, without maintenance, it will be same as if those roads were never made. And if China does use these roads for military reasons, we can choose to reply by non-conventional means i.e. striking not at the border, but elsewhere. And then the aerial route is also available to us for transporation. Perhaps that's why we're buying military transport aircrafts, which give flexibility of use anywhere in the country.

The thing is we should put our money where we see economic returns ... and these roads that China is building across Arunachal border are just a farce. Let's not fall for it. It's perhaps their Maginot line, which we will never need to cross and encounter.
