Bakersfield, Calif.- Dogs are usually referred to as man’s best friend, but one cat in California came to the rescue when a 4-year-old boy was attacked by a neighbor’s dog on Tuesday.
“She is my hero," said Jeremy, talking about his cat, Tara.
The grey tabby is the latest YouTube sensation after security video from the family’s house captured a dog from next door attacking Jeremy.
The video shows the dog biting the boy's leg and shaking him.
Tara quickly jumped into action, running out of the house and pouncing on the dog. Finally, the dog let the boy go.
Jeremy’s mother then runs to the boy, while Tara follows the dog, chasing him away.
"I've never seen anything like it," said the boy's father, Roger Triantafilo.
Roger was the one who posted the video online.
He thinks it was the cat's "motherly instinct."
Jeremy's mother, Erica, said the attack could've been much nastier.
According to the parents, it took about a dozen stitches to close the two wounds.
Erica says that the dog has never attacked anyone in the family before this incident. The dog owners, who live next door, say they have turned the dog over to animal control for observation.
The family says they're not angry at their neighbors.
The boy's parents joked that Tara has earned her salmon for the rest of her life.
