Pakistan's coronavirus cases reach 137, with 104 patients reported in Sindh

Pakistan on Monday reported 137 coronavirus cases after a sharp increase was reported among pilgrims who had recently returned to the country from Iran via the Taftan border.
According to the Sindh Health department, a total of 76 people from Taftan have tested positive for the virus in Sukkur, where they have been quarantined, while there are 27 cases in Karachi and one in Hyderabad.
Fifteen new cases have also been reported by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all of whom were pilgrims who had returned to Pakistan via Taftan.
Ten cases have been reported by Balochistan, four by Islamabad, three by Gilgit Baltistan and one by Punjab.
The national tally, subsequently, has risen to 137.
Sindh sees sharp increase
Earlier, 41 cases were confirmed by Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab in a tweet.
“More results have come in. So far 50 people who had arrived in Sukkur from Taftaan have tested positive, 25 at Karachi and 1 at Hyderabad. So the total patients have reached 76 in Sindh. Out of these 76 patients, 2 have recovered and the remaining 74 are being kept in isolation,” he said.
Talking to Geo News, Barrister Murtaza Wahab said since day one, the Sindh government is emphasising on strict screening measures at the Taftan border and airports but the federal authorities did not pay any heed.

Wahab said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah would again sensitise the Centre in a meeting today with Prime Minister Imran Khan to step up their efforts.
Globally, more than 6,000 people have died and more than 156,000 have been infected by COVID-19 as the disease spreads rapidly to new territories.

(Karachi) At least 15 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Monday. With the emergence of new cases, the toll has crossed 120 mark.
In a tweet, K-P's Finance and Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra mentioned that tests of 19 people with coronavirus symptoms were conducted and of them 15 turned out to be positive. He added the patients were received from Taftan and these are the first positive cases in K-P.
He said the affected patients are being looked after in quarantine in an isolated facility in Dera Ismail Khan.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said 15 more patients who arrived in Sukkur from Taftan have been diagnosed with coronavirus. The total number of cases in Sindh reached 88 while 76 cases were reported in Sukkur.
He said 393 tests have been conducted so far and of them 27 were tested positive. He said of the 110 cases in Sukkur, 50 have been tested positive while 60 are negative.
Murad said that the government has allocated 2,048 apartments for coronavirus patients and one person will be kept in one apartment. He said the patients will be served three times meal while they are in isolation. He stated that flats in Labour Colony are being utilized as a quarantine.
He pointed out that 11 more patients who arrived from Taftan have been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The chief minister said that the Sindh government had bought 10,000 testing kits with its own resources.
