It did not land on a mine, rather close to a buried IED which was remotely detonated. two men can be seen moving to the right of the helo, not sure if the were involved or not.

Not surprising. Many of the Afghan forces don't seem to be very professional.

Who filmed the video of helicopter landing from far distance ?? Taliban know where the helicopters land. That was an planned ambush/trap.

Mostly an unguarded/Unprotected Landing site. And it's not the first time...

They planted the bomb in advance and waited...After hearing the heli from far away, they run near the site to record.
Or
They planted in advance and Got intel for the Heli coming and then rushed recording it.

The site itself is flawed, that is not a good LZ spot.

If you want to craft a LZ, and you have hill top traverse like in the video, you want to have the LZ on the reverse slope of the hill, and secure it so you only have 1 side facing the enemy, that way it's a lot easier to defend the LZ when the chopper come down.

In the video, you saw the chopper land on TOP of the hill silhouette against the sky, basically you are presenting yourself as the biggest target as possible, you may as well hang a banner over the Mi-8 saying "Shoot Here"

That did beg a question tho, that bad of a choice usually mean that is an emergency LZ (for picking up wounded or VIP) which mean Taliban should not have known before hand. Or the afghan being this dumb and pick this spot as their regular LZ? Not sure..

In the End, Regular or not... The minimum action was to "Check" for possible "Security breach". Taking into account the "Area". It's a war Zone.

My Q is : Isn't something they learn at the Academy? and if they do... What prevent them for applying it?

Well, all I can say that is a very bad spot for work as a LZ, although I can only comment on after what I saw in the video, I wasn't there so I may be off.

If It was my platoon, I would find my spot, have the guy secure the LZ, look for anything disturbed, and then check enemy communication before calling my own bird, usually the very first sign you get is from Taliban own radio chatter, they are the one almost always tell you what they are going to do before actually doing it. You usually put your own troop between your enemy and your LZ. that way you can deal with it quickly when the bird come down.

I have no idea why they did what they did, because I have no idea who these people were, were they ANA, ANP, National Guard or just militia? They all have different type of training, and we trained some ANA back when I was in afghan, they went thru what we called a crash course basic training, which does not include all these, we basically teach them formation, movement and weapon handling, just enough so they can operate with us. These type of information come from Advance individual training as part of Infantry tactics.
