What's new

Height of Pakistanis has fallen 4'' over 50 years

If the existing chronic malnutrition continues to increase, such measurable adverse changes in the population are inevitable.
At 5'5 I am the shortest doctor in my hospital and most adult patients are taller then me. This report coincides with this.
https://www.dawn.com/news/1346855/eu-gives-sindh-60m-to-improve-nutrition
I do not think I have to explain what this means.... and the next survey might have us dying of cholera when funding is available for that.

Basically, the heights have helped Pakistanis overcome corruption, religious extremism and have won them every conflict they took part in.
Hey, get your facts straight. Eating 5 times what is considered normal was what helped us deal with corruption and wasting food is what helped us finish unemployment.

Today i saw a grandma.. probably in her 90s ... climbing steep hills of Baltit Fort...

And kinda felt ashamed...
Even back home in balochistan.. see old people being more physically fit than the new generation...

Natural diet brah!

Eat fruits.. and for meat.. buy lamb/goat or cows and slaughter em yourself and have fresh produce..

In our house .. my mother always uses vegetables from our own garden.. we buy livestock and get the butcher to chop it in front of us... why? Coz in big cities even the meat is stale and who knows probably carries chemicals n shyt.

True story bro.

If your 5'6-7 in a family of 6 and above.. and all your brothers are like tall... and you are also one of the youngest... you face alot of crap.. lol

Northern Pak?

Well the people of peshawar valley arent the tallest... the tribesmen of FATA are taller on average than ... say a person from Mardan.

The tallest guy i met is from FATA.. he was over 7 ft tall and built like a fukin tank for real!

Hi,

It is the minerals in the water and the red meat they eat.

I don't know what it is. I've tried to look at any patterns, my grandfather was in AJK regiment, he was 6 ft. His siblings and relatives from that generation are at least 5"10 and above. But the recent ones tend to have been shorter. I think moving in to cities and away from the dehati livestyle with poorer nutrient rich food has definitely resulted in a lot of folks in my family getting shorter.

The story is the same for my paternal side as well. Don't worry though, you taller folks keep the enemy busy while we'll get in their legs and trip them over.

Hi,

It is the lack of iron in the diet.

FAISALABAD:

The average height of Pakistanis has fallen four inches over the last 50 years due to malnourishment and food deficiency.
This was revealed in a workshop on “Applied Nature Need Based research Projects of Food Industries” organized by National Institute of Food Science & Technology (NIFSAT) University of Agriculture, Faisalabad here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, UAF Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, said that cousin marriages were also one of the reasons for the short stature of Pakistanis. He urged the need for new diet packages to be introduced for balanced, affordable food.

Dr Iqrar also expressed concerns over existing eating habits, saying 50 years ago, large amounts of corn flour was traditionally consumed, but over time, Pakistanis had lost the mechanism to cook roti with corn flour, which was a cheaper, healthier staple food item.

Dr Iqrar revealed that a BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Engineering degree was being initiated for the first time in the country. He hoped that by introducing new disciplines, a trained human resource would be available for the food industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehboob Aly Manji, President, VITA Pakistan stressed the need to exploit the indigenous food potential by introducing fruits drinks such as Falsa, Luqat and Jaman. He said that floriculture practices could be most beneficial in uplifting the living standards of small farmers. Manji said Pakistan was exporting 80-90 tons of flowers to Saudi Arabia every year, and this volume could be increased by promoting and incentivizing floriculture.

Professor Dr Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Director General (NIFSAT) said that Nestle Pakistan and VITA Food have signed MOU’s to promote skill development initiatives through short courses.

“NIFSAT has conducted 12 national and international symposia, seminars and workshops during the last year with the collaboration of industries,” he added.

Dr Muhammad Shafique Ch. Director, RAMNA Food, Lahore stressed the need for a value addition mechanism, keeping in view the demand of consumers.

He expressed his concerns over the Punjab government’s decision to purchase 2.5 million ton of wheat this year, given that 4.5 million tons of wheat was stored in the province.

Malnourishment and food deficiency causes stunted growth .

I have 6.2 feet and it seems in our state ,in near future people like me will defeated by new generation.

That made me think, but then why are Northern Pakistanis and Northern Indians the tallest in their respective lands? Europeans who live near the Alps are the tallest in their lands.

You're letting the side down bros. Us AJK folk are tall I'm 6ft 1 and yes people have met me half a dozen times on this forum. :smitten:

@Narcissist this was a 5 year old thread

I had to find out a bit more. So Punjabi men are tallest men in India, 2nd tallest by a whisker are those from Kerala - a Southern state. In women, the women from Kerala top the charts in India.

No coincidence that Kerala was the first state in India to achieve 100% literacy, the lowest malnutrition rate and has life-expectancy on par with developed countries at 75 years. I visited it first time a couple years ago - very pretty too.

Pretty the natural beauty of our state .Right?
