HEC to offer 10,000 PhD scholarships for USA

Give over with your exaggerations, your IITs are comparable to LUMS, Qaid-e-Azam uni, NUST, COMSAT etc, please do not mention them in the same sentence as MIT or you will become the laughing stock of this forum.Kudos sir

Hi dear @django
I do not wish to waste any more of my time writing elaborate replies that consume a lot of my time.Hope you understand. As for the IITs,you DO NOT UNDERSTAND what it takes to get there. It is similar to chinese approach of training their young population for Olympics. As for mentioning them in the same sentence as MIT,you either failed to read what i wrote or are imagining things-either way i would strongly suggest you to read once again. I clearly said a lot of faculty at MIT are an alumunus of my college IITM. Secondly the intake rate of IITs is just 0.5% vis-a-vis MIT that has something above 10%. What I wanted to say in no uncertain terms was getting into IITs is way way more tougher than getting into MIT. As for pakistan, none of their universities are even close to IITs/IISc when it comes to quality of education. Please be realistic.
In case your hyper nationalist tendencies cloud your judgmental capabilities-kindly answer these few questions without any BIAS-
1)How many patent are filed by top pakistani engineering universities? In india IITs filed close to 500 patents last year!
2)How many students are absorbed or placed in various MNC research firms right in their 4th year?
3)How many research MNCs have r&d projects and courses in pakistani unversities?
4)What is the quantum of research that comes out of top pakistani engineering universities i.e papers produced and how many of those actually get published in top rated international journals like AIAA etc?
5)How many industry related research programs are going on in pakistani engineering colleges?
6)What is the degree of industry-academic interaction?
7)Quantum of funding for various r&d activities in your colleges?Did you know just a week back an alumunus here donated $1mn for r&d activities in electrical dept?

So reading your post - I'm not convinced IITs provides a markedly better quality of education than the ones django mentioned.

Prove me wrong.

Hi dear answer those very simple questions that I raised above and you'll get your answers by yourself!

.
Such a twisted way to say something so simple.

I would expect a TTA to mention the ranking table before posting the individual rankings. Don't compare two universities from different rankings by different organizations.

One of your links does not work.

Besides you didn't list the ranking criteria.

Teaching is one of the criteria. R&D is another.

But there are a lot of other useless criteria that go into making the overall ranking.

You didn't "demolish" @django's claim.

Most of the universities he mentioned provide the same quality of education as the IITs.

Are you suggesting a student who went to IIT would somehow be a much inferior engineer if he went to NUST?

I'm not talking about the reputation - only the quality of engineers they churn out. Obviously, a more reputable university grad would land a better first job.

So reading your post - I'm not convinced IITs provides a markedly better quality of education than the ones django mentioned.

I picked ranking from each of the university's website, you are free to post any ranking which has all three MIT, IIT B, and NUST in the same list, and refute the statement IIT being in the same league of MIT relative vaalidating NUST being in the same league as IIT....

NUST on it's own website lists itself to be 340th, and IIT B 32nd.

Most of the universities he mentioned provide the same quality of education as the IITs.

Looks like simple comprehension issue plaging the discussion, he did not say what you infer above but explicitly mentioned that IIT's are comparable to the universities that he listed. the only one that I know of in the list itself publishes itself as 340th globally....hope that helps.

I stopped reading after this ludicrous comment.Kudos

@django
Yeah sure you stopped reading because you could never comprehend what it is like writing a tough exam - complexity level as tough as international olympids with 1.6-1.8mn students for just 10000 seats. Yes you sure can neven comprehend because such a thing doesnt even exist in your cockooland!Keep living in your cockooland while IIT grads become the ordinary research engineers at various MNCs to their CEOs~

On a serious note, what STOPPED you from answering those basic questions i asked?Too humbled or embarrassed to answer them?Maybe the fact that IITs alone file more patents than all of pakistan combined is too much to bear?

Not to go off on a tangent but if your IITs were as brilliant as you suggest why is your DRDO which I presume recruits from these IITs the laughing stock of the region and considered Pakistan's secret weapon, and I will not embarrass you by quoting to you some of your top scientists who share my sentiments in regards to this third rate organisation.Kudos Mishra sahib, sorry to bruise your fragile ego.

For once,please stop this war.
Dear, the facts are straight and undeniable.
No Pakistani university is even close to the IITs.Nothing wrong with accepting the facts.
All the credit to India for setting up such top notch institions.
Forget Nust,Giki,Pieas. We have sleeping all the way while the world was progressing.

HEC to offer 10,000 PhD scholarships for US

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will send 10,000 scholars to the United States for PhD studies in next 10 years.

These scholars will get admissions in agriculture and food security, medical and allied health sciences, energy, water, climate change, advanced digital technology among others.

This was stated by Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal while explaining the Pakistan-US Knowledge Corridor during a video conference session with vice chancellors from across the country on Wednesday.

The HEC chairman, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and executive director Dr. Arshad Ali, were also present on the occasion.

The Pakistan-US Corridor was conceptualized in June 2015 as a result of US-Pakistan Education, Science and Technology working group under the bilateral strategic dialogue.

The minister said that 10,000 PhDs educated in the best US would give spectacular results. “The government is committed to increasing access to higher education and for that purpose sub-campuses and virtual campuses are being established at district level so as to enable aspiring students to gain higher education at their doorstep.”

Dr Mukhtar Ahmed gave an overview of HEC’s efforts for developing human resource and providing state-of-the-art facilities to the higher education institutions. Speaking to Dawn the HEC chairman said all vice chancellors had been directed to prepare students for admissions in top universities of the US.

“Under Pakistan-US Corridor, the students will be prepared in such a manner that they can get scholarships for US universities. In case, the students cannot receive scholarship but succeeded in getting themselves enrolled with top universities of the US, the HEC will bear their expenses,” the chairman said and added every year, at least 1,000 students will be sent to the US for pursing higher education.

Thought Pakistan's wanted a complete divorce from the US? why not send these to China?

You see the reality if far different than the one you find behind your keyboard in PDF. Countries like those of ours need foreign assistance be it in education or other fields. So before our friends in Pakistan accuse Afghans of being chummy with the US, they should take a step back and realize that Afghanistan see value in having a relationship with the sole superpower, because it help us rebuild our institution, educate our young etc etc.

If you can be chummy with a communist china, afghans can be chummy with the US :D

Expecting a troll onslaught :D

Usually you try to make sense in ur posts but this is a complete non sensical comment.Wrong comment in the wrong thread.
What are you trying to imply btw ?

The same US which bombed you to stoneage and now trying to 'rebuild' you is actually ...oh wait,I think there's no point in putting the facts infront of you.

You've decided that you'll 'take on' Pakistan now and that's going to be the road to prosperity for Afg.

Good for you. We'll see where it gets you my friend,we'll see.

:) :) :)

On the contrary my argument here is that instead of going guns blazing on Afghans for wanting to have relations with the US or India or anyone else, and taunting us " when the US leaves, when India leaves blah blah" so as you see we have practical consideration in wanting to be chummy and good relations with anyone and everyone.

PS : the US didn't bomb us to stone age but on the contrary invested over a hundred billion. On the contrary your proxies are currently blowing bridges, killing school teachers and are attempting to bring us back to the stone age.

It is the same US investment which has provided us enough education and experience to compete with you and anyone else in the region and the world.

Can you tell me how many of your Talis that are graduating like monkeys can do the same?

Hi dear @django
You could have saved a lot of embarrassment had you done your prior homework before commenting what you just did !!Ask any indian and he would tell you that nobody from IITs join either DRDO or ISRO-but you'd never learn- I just pray to god, educated pakistanis are not like you!
As for DRDO though,it is doing great in a lot of sectors-but again how can you see?I guess rational thinking based on scientific literature isnt even a part of pakistani technical education. So yeah, keep living in your cockooworld!
I wonder when india is so transparent with itz research, then how come folks like you constantly FAIL to even rationally analyze what is going on in india in the field of research-No wonder pakistani education system is doing great!

sorry to bruise your fragile ego
@django
Well to be brutally honest,it is you who constantly fail to see something very obvious and straight. Perhaps you're a bit humbled by the fact that IITs alone file twice the total patent output of your entire country?Ahh,i can understand your feelings!

.
I guess rational thinking based on scientific literature isnt even a part of pakistani technical education.
So I guess discussions about Sage Bharadwaja and his warp drive at your senior scientific conferences where scientists from your IITs where also participants is a sign of the progress Hindia has made in rational thinking based on the scientific method. Could you please keep all us unenlightened Pakistanis up to date with this marvel of Vedic engineering.

So yeah, keep living in your cockooworld!
Your short sighted leaders had this same ARROGANT attitude in regards to our nuclear weapons program, on the 28th of May 1998 they got the shock of their lives.Kudos Mishra sahib

Make sure they come back...

@django
Only in your dreams do IIT faculties take part in such weird scientific conference you're talking about. On a serious note, do you've problem in understanding something as basic as numbers?
Even if let's say some random professor from some random college or lab made weird statement based on his religious believes, do you think it's fair to relate quality of IITs/IISc with such an incident, especially when IITs themselves have nothing to do with such a statement or line of thought.
Look dude, who so ever you are, you are free to twist statements or erroneously extrapolate things to suit your agenda, but kindly don't let your hyper religious and nationalist tendencies cloud your judgemental capabilities

.
The only way to make them come back is to make sure there's something for them to come back to. Opportunities. This is what's needed.
I would recommend Pak-India should make tech city on the border. Because not only Pakistan, India also facing huge brain drain. After Phd they have only one option " teaching " .
