NAWABSHAH: Eight people died of sunstroke across Sindh on Wednesday as temperatures topped 50 degrees Celsius in several towns. Moenjodaro airport was the hottest place at 54 degrees Celsius.

Larkana and Nawabshah followed with 53 and 52.2 degrees C, respectively. The latter saw its hottest day since the Met office started keeping records. Four people died and dozens of others fainted from sunstroke in the district.

The victims were identified as Mazhar Solangi, Rasheeda Pasha, Hameeda Rustamani, and mother of Malik Ashraf Awan, whose name could not be ascertained.

An official of the Met office told Dawn the heatwave might continue for a couple of days because there was no chance of rain soon.

Unabated loadshedding by Hesco for hours, accompanied by power breakdowns, multiplied the agony. Larkana and its adjoining areas have also been experiencing a relentless spell of oppressive weather. The Met office said it had never recorded such high temperatures in Larkana.

Because of sunstroke, Shah Mohammad Kato, a prisoner facing life-term in a murder case, died in Larkana’s central prison. Naseeban died in Wahnee village near Dokri.

A little girl and an elderly man died of sunstroke in Thull, Jacobabad district. The deceased were identified as Rozina (8) and Moula Bux Buriro. Many people, most of them children, were admitted to hospital after suffering from sunstroke and gastroenteritis.

i used to live in NWFP(peshawar) for sometime, and i hated the heat and hot weather, BUT THAT TIME THERE WAS NO OR LITTLE ELECTRICITY SHORTAGE in paksitan, i dont know how poor people manage it now with present situation? i still got family there and i know alot of families have gone to afghanistan because of the hot weather. poor people dont have anything, god help them, i think there was so furious protests in Sind as well awhile ago becasuse of electricity issues. by the way, majority of afghansitan have cool weather and those areas which is hot, the people dont see any difference, because the areas never had electricity.

Well the situation is better now..light only goes for 5 hours now before that it used to go out for more then 8-9 hours!..Now light goes from night 8-10 and then in morning from 10-11 and then 2-4 (right now it is 3:21 so light is out)...Let's hope the damn projects finish soon and Karachi become city of lights again :p

sometimes we moan about cold weather and rain in the UK, but when i remember the heat in paksitan, i stop complaiing.
You guys should not.The Brits won't even able to live in this kind of hot weather for a week..Cold Weather Rocks! That's why i like some parts of NWFP (Muree, Swat etc are not that hot)..
