The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda stated that the Health Ministry is setting up an AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir and will provide similar facilities of AIIMS in both Jammu and Kashmir regions.

The Union Health Minister, Shri J P Nadda stated this after meeting a delegation from Jammu and Kashmir comprising State BJP President and Lok Sabha MP, Sh. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister of the State, Sh. Nirmal Singh, State Health Minister, Sh. Lal Singh and State BJP General Secretary, Sh. Narendra Singh, who met the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, here today.

“The NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji is committed to provide healthcare facilities for all regions. And we are committed to balanced regional growth when it comes to healthcare facilities,” said Sh. Nadda.

PM visits Himachal Pradesh, lays foundation stone for AIIMS at Bilaspur


The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, visited Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh today.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), at Bilaspur. This 750 bed hospital will be built at a cost of approximately Rs. 1350 crore. In addition to healthcare, it will also provide medical education at the under-graduate and post-graduate level, besides nursing. The Prime Minister also unveiled a plaque to mark the launch of Digital Nerve Centres for primary healthcare.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), at Una.

Shri Narendra Modi also inaugurated a Steel Processing Unit of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), at Kandrori, Kangra.

Cabinet approves setting up of a new AIIMS in Deoghar, Jharkhand

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved setting up of a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Deoghar, Jharkhand. A provision of funds worth Rs. 1103 crore has been approved for the project and the said AIIMS will be set up under the Pradhan MantriSwasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).



Details:



The AIIMS at Deoghar will consist of:



  • A hospital with a capacity of 750 beds, trauma center facilities
  • A medical college with an in-take of 100 MBBS students per year
  • A nursing college with an int-ake of 60 B.Sc.(Nursing) students per year, residential complexes and allied facilities / services, broadly on the pattern of AIIMS, New Delhi.
  • 20 Speciality/Super Speciality Departments including 15 Operation Theatres.
  • An Ayush Department with 30 beds for providing treatment facilities in the traditional system of medicine.


Impact:

The setting up of new AIIMS at Deoghar will serve the dual purpose of providing super speciality health care to the population while also helping to create a large pool of doctors and other health workers in this region to be available for primary and secondary-level institutions/facilities being created under the National Health Mission (NHM).







Background:



Under the PMSSY, AIIMS have been established in Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Raipur, Jodhpur, Rishikesh and Patna. Work of AIIMS Rae Bareli (U.P.), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Kalyani (West Bengal) and Mangalagiri in Guntur (A.P.) is in progress. Construction work has also been awarded for AIIMS, Gorakhpur (U.P.).



Further, following AIIMS have also been sanctioned:



  • Bathinda, Punjab in July 2016
  • Guwahati (Assam), May 2017
  • Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh) in January 2018

Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey inaugurates 63rd Foundation Day celebrations of AIIMS, New Delhi

Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the 63rd Foundation Day celebrations of the AIIMS, New Delhi, here today. At the function, Shri Choubey gave away the research excellence awards to 14 faculty members. Academic awards and medals were given to 30 medical and paramedical students. Dr J S Guleria, Former Dean (Academics) and Head of the Department of Medicine, AIIMS and Prof Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS, New Delhi were also present at the event. This day marks the beginning of undergraduate teaching at AIIMS and was the day the first batch of MBBS classes was held in 1956.

Speaking at the celebration function, Shri Choubey stated that the Institute has always maintained the highest standards of meritocracy and learning and has established itself not only in India but also at global platform as an apex medical institution that best combines excellent medical education with cutting edge research and quality healthcare.

Shri Choubey further added that AIIMS has established high reputation and has contributed significantly in academic, research and patient care. It has maintained number one rank and has attracted students from various other countries like USA, UK, Australia, Germany, etc.

Shri Choubey said that AIIMS is the mentor institution for the new AIIMS like Institutions being established across the country. In this regard, the work done by AIIMS in formulating and reviewing subordinate legislation including the AIIMS Rules and Regulations has been commendable.

AIIMS, New Delhi also organised an exhibition on the theme ‘Next Generation Health Care”. All the departments displayed posters, exhibits and videos on the future of healthcare. Innovative and interactive displays including a dental check-up, eye check and other medical investigations were also arranged for the benefit of visitors. The exhibition will be open for the public till 30th September, 2018. To promote the Campaign of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’, a human chain was made with display of messages and slogans.

Shri J P Nadda inaugurates ‘Swacchta Mela’ at AIIMS, New Delhi

Urges people to internalize cleanliness and hygiene as a lifestyle

Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare today inaugurated the ‘Swacchta Mela’ at AIIMS, New Delhi. Speaking at the occasion, Shri Nadda said cleanliness and sanitation should not be a one-time activity but should become a part of our daily life. He also added that all hospitals and government health facilities should endeavor to maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the year. Shri J P Nadda also administered the “Swachhta Pledge” to the participants and volunteers. The Union Health Minister also unveiled the new poster series on anti-spitting, anti-littering and a DVD of short film on Bio Medical Waste Management (BMW) “TOTO Ki Pathashala” at the function.

Shri J P Nadda urged the people to internalize cleanliness and inculcate hygiene as a matter of lifestyle. He stated that sanitation is a key determinant of health and a clean and hygienic environment hugely contributes to preventing many diseases like diarrhea, lymphatic filariasis, trachoma etc. Shri Nadda reiterated the importance of preventive and promotive health.

Shri Nadda further stated that Kayakalp has played a pivotal role in gaining trust and confidence of community in public health facilities. “It involves a continuous process of assessment of facilities on predefined criteria and has proved to be a successful intervention,” Shri Nadda said. He further added that the zest and zeal shown by the hospitals and their collective efforts in improving cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices should continue unabated. The Union Health Minister informed that the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has decided to consider assessment of healthcare facilities in the private sector on the lines of parameters of Kayakalp Scheme.

Swachhta Mela is being organized by Department of Hospital Administration on 1st & 2nd October as welfare activity for the Swachhta Senanis (hospital housekeeping and sanitation staff) to express gratitude towards their dedication, hard work and untiring efforts in keeping AIIMS Clean & Green.

Prof Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Vijaydeep Siddharth, AIIMS Swacchta Abhiyan, Dr D K Sharma, Medical superintendent, AIIMS along with other senior offciers and faculty were also present at the event.

President of India in Himachal Pradesh; Addresses first convocation OFDR Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Kangra

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, graced and addressed the first convocation of the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh today (October 29, 2018).


Speaking on the occasion, the President said there is a need for large number of good doctors and medical colleges for delivery of effective health services. Recently, the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Ordinance 2018 has been promulgated to promote good medical institutes and to tackle the challenges of medical education. This will encourage the establishment, expansion and modernization of medical colleges and institutions.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan launches Asthma Manual for Schools in 11 different languages

The Manual to be implemented in over 1 Lakh schools across India “Children with asthma can be healthy, happy and lead an active school life’’ says the Minister

Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan launched Asthma Manual for Schools here, today. The Manual has been compiled by Lung Care Foundation, a not-for-profit organization and it has been reviewed by leading Doctors across India including doctors from- AIIMS (New Delhi), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (New Delhi), Fortis (Kolkata) and Apollo (Bengaluru).

Translated in 11 Different Languages, the Manual will be adopted by Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for implementation in over 1 Lakh schools through Eco-Clubs across the India.This manual is a compilation of simple, easy to understand information to know about childhood asthma and best practices that schools can implement.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said,“The Asthma Manual for Schools will help all stakeholders in the school eco-system to understand the basics of asthma and offer reasonable and implementable solutions towards creating an environment where Asthma is effectively managed and children with asthma can be healthy, happy and lead an active school life.’’ The Minister further said, “From my personal experience from the Pulse Polio Campaign, I’m sure with the combined efforts of the Teachers, School administration, Parents and Children, we will be able to create anAsthma supportive environment in schools and ensure the safety of every child in our country.”

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Shri Abhishek Kumar, C.E.O. & Co-Founder, Lung Care Foundation said, “With an increasing number of children with an Asthmatic tendency in India, such information becomes all the more important.”

Over 10 per cent of school going children suffer from Asthma. Poorly Controlled Asthma can lead to the retardation of physical growth of a child. It may also cause psychological impact from absenteeism and inability to keep up with the peer group because of the child’s frequent visits to medical care facilities.

Lately, there have been several cases of even Deaths in school due to lack of awareness about Asthma and the steps to be followed in case of an emergency.

All the above are preventable and thus it is extremely important that school leadership and staff understand the presence and the magnitude of this problem and take proactive measures to nurture and maintain an asthma friendly environment and an emergency asthma management plan as part of their commitment to the safety, health, and well-being of their students.It need to be understood that the children with Asthma can lead normal lives including competing in sports at the highest level if Asthma is well controlled.

The information and recommendations provided in this manual are evidence-based responses to the asthma-related needs of schools in India. This manual is designed to be used by any member of the school community, including teachers, school administration, parents and the students themselves.

The manual is first of its kind in India and will help to provide a safe environment for students across India. There are many prominent similar initiatives across the world in various countries to tackle this problem.

On November 3, 2018, the President will inaugurate the first Gyan Kumbh jointly organised by the Higher Education Department of Government of Uttarakhand and the University of Patanjali in Haridwar. On the same day, he will also address the first convocation of AIIMS Rishikesh.



On November 4, 2018, the President will return to New Delhi.

PRESIDENT OF INDIA IN UTTARAKHAND; ADDRESSES FIRST CONVOCATION OF AIIMS RISHIKESH; URGES ITS DEVELOPMENT AS AN EFFECTIVE RESEARCH CENTRE

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, graced and addressed the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, in Uttarakhand today (November 3, 2018).

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that in India, AIIMS is a symbol of excellence in the field of medical care and research. Establishment of an AIIMS in hitherto underserved areas makes quality medical facilities accessible and affordable. It also reduces pressure on hospitals in metros.

The President said AIIMS Rishikesh should envisage itself as an effective research centre, apart from providing good health services. He expressed hope that AIIMS Rishikesh will develop many super-specialty faculties so that people from other areas too come here for treatment. He urged doctors to research health-related issues specific to the Uttarakhand region.

Earlier in the day, the President inaugurated Gyan Kumbh – a national conference on quality enhancement in higher education - in Haridwar. The conference is being organised by the government of Uttarakhand and the University of Patanjali, Haridwar.

Addressing the gathering, the President said that as per constitutional provisions, responsibility for higher education lies with both Union and state governments. This conference is an example of coordination among various stakeholders. He expressed hope that outcomes of the conference will enhance opportunities for higher education not only in Uttarakhand but in the entire country.

Ayurveda Departments will be opened in the new 19 AIIMS: Shripad Naik

3rd Ayurveda day celebrated


Minister of State for AYUSH Shri Shripad Yesso Naik has announced that Ayurveda Departments will be opened in the new 19 AIIMS. He said, work is already on to start Ayurveda Departments in hundred ESIC hospitals under Ministry of Labour. Further, approval has been received from Home Ministry to open Ayurveda Deparments in seven hospitals of BSF and other Para military forces.

Inaugurating the 3rd Ayurveda Day in New Delhi today along with Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Harshvardhan, Shri Naik said, this year Ministry has taken many steps to fulfil the theme ‘Ayurveda for public health’ and decided for further expand the coverage of the National Programme of ‘Prevention of Non Communicable Disease’ from exiting six states. The Minister further said, the Ministry will organise 50 workshops in collaboration with MSME to enhance entrepreneurship in Ayurveda and AYUSH sector.

While addressing the gathering Dr. Harshvardhan shared his experiences about Ayurveda and other systems of Indian medicine. He emphasised upon the scientific integration of AYUSH system of medicines. He has also appreciated yesterday’s seminar for sensitizing young entrepreneurs and exploring business opportunities in Ayurveda.

The third Ayurveda Day is being celebrated throughout the country on the occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti today. As a part of Ayurveda Day celebration, Ministry had organised a “National Seminar on Entrepreneurship and Business Development in Ayurveda” in association with NITI Aayog on 4th & 5th November 2018 at New Delhi, with the intention to encourage entrepreneurs and Ayurveda stakeholders towards businesses opportunities in the sector. The National Dhanwantary Ayurveda Awards were also given away today.

Nearly 800 participants from across the country were participated in the main function of 3rd Ayurveda day. On this occasion “National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Award” were also conferred to eminent Vaidyas. This year, this prestigious awards are given to Vd. S.K. Mishra, Prof. M. S. Baghel and Dr.Itoozhi Bhavadasan for their significant contribution for the promotion of Ayurveda. A cash prize of Rs. 5 lacs along with citation are given to the awardees. The winners of the National level Ayurveda quiz conducted by All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, were also felicitated during function.

Another highlight observation of the 3rd Ayurveda Day was launch of the AYUSH-Health Management Information System (A-HMIS), a dedicated software application for Electronic Health Record (EHR) for the AYUSH systems of Healthcare which is expected to revolutionise the way Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy are practised in the country, by inducting modern IT-solutions into these systems.

Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurates 4th International Congress on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine

Spread of non-communicable diseases pose challenge of huge economic and social costs, says Minister

The Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (I/C), Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the geriatric study has gained relevance in the recent years with increase in life span of people. This field has unique speciality where the parameter is based on age. He said that more than 70% of the population is below the age of 40 years, due to which India is facing bi-polar challenge. On the one hand we have increasing number of old population and on the other hand there is a large percentage of population in young age. He was speaking at the inauguration of 4th International Congress on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine that is being organized along with the Asia Pacific Geriatric Medicine Network Conference at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The vision of the conference is to improve old age care around the world. The Congress focuses on sensitisation and reorientation of health care professionals with the theme: ‘Future of Geriatric Medicine practice - Are you Ready?’ Keeping in mind the recent advances in healthcare and information technology, the discussions are being held on topics such as subjects of biogerontology and social & clinical geriatrics such as diabetes, euthanasia, elder abuse and geriatric patient care.


The Minister said earlier the challenge used to be of spread of communicable diseases, while now the challenge is that of non-communicable diseases spreading fast irrespective of age. This trend has posed a new challenge keeping in mind the economic and social cost of these diseases, he added. The younger generation, if affected with metabolically disorder diseases, will have to pay huge economic costs keeping in mind the increasing life span, the Minister said.


Speaking about the Government’s efforts to improve health sector in India, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has accorded high priority to health care and prevention services. He said that launch of ‘Aayushmaan Bharat’ programme is an example specially in a developing country like India. He also spoke of other initiatives taken by Government for senior citizens like increase in minimum pension etc.


The Director, AIIMS, Dr Randeep Gulleria, Chairman, Power Grid, Shri I S Jha, Vice-Chancellor, Pt B D Sharma University, Dr O P Kalra, Joint Secretary, Department of Pensions & Pensioners Welfare Shri S N Mathur and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
