Dubai: Former President and military ruler retired General Pervez Musharraf has reacted to the special Court verdict convicting him of high treason by saying that he has lost a battle, but not the war.
According to GNN, the former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) remained calm when he was told about the decision, and in conversation with his close friends said that he planned to appeal the verdict in the Supreme Court.
The legal team for the former president have also said that they will appeal against the decision. "We did not know the decision was about to be announced," the lawyers said, adding that they were not heard by the court.
Earlier in the day, a special Court constituted to hear the high treason case against Pervez Musharraf sentenced the former ruler to death on charges of high treason related to the imposition of emergency and suspension of the Constitution on November 3, 2007.
The verdict was split 2-1 by the three-member bench. Justice Waqar Seth read out the decision, while the detailed verdict is expected within 48 hours.
