Buddy,
Just about every holiday by any country have some taint to it. If I try hard enough I will find something about your Germany and grossly expand any holiday's taint to the extreme, the same way you did with our Thanksgiving. But I am not going to be as juvenile with petty jealousy the way you ARE about US. I have enough respect for the CURRENT Germany and the German people to know better than to shame them with their ancestors' past.
Why for, when I could shame your entire country and people for WW II ? The US was not founded at the time of the European settlers. The holiday Thanksgiving was not about settling in The New World. Historians disagrees about the origin of Thanksgiving but there are no disagreements about the role of the regular Germans regarding the Jews amongst them.Try hard to find a German national holiday that has a comparably dark past. Go ahead and stop BSing!

Germany's Thirty Years War that pitted Protestants against Catholics and spread throughout Europe contributed to the exodus to The New World, which led up to the 'genocide' of the Native Americans. There is no national holiday celebrating anything related to WWII. What our forefathers have done we have more than once compensated not only by words but also by deeds and money
On the other hand, the U.S. still hasn't done much for poisoning, killing and raping you former fellow country men/ women. Shame one you!
Actually, you should not worry about the American Thanksgiving holiday. You should be embarrassed at your China's National Day, the establishment of the PRC on Oct 1, 1949. What followed was a national bloodbath that became The Great Terror.I am thankful that I do not have to partake in this farce of a holiday.
I am thankful that I am not an American indian on this day to witness the celebrations of back stabbing genocide.
I am thankful that I can see through the veil of ignorance that encompass this "holiday"
I am thankful that the white man does not have a holiday thanking Gorillas in the mountains.
So it looks like the history you learned about modern day China is even more sanitized than Americans about the early days of the continent they currently rule over. Did you know that 'little landlords', as young as six yrs old, were publicly executed by PRC madmen just for the alleged sins of their parents ? Collective suicides were frequent due to inability to forage for food because of starvation. Family, several families, and even entire villages -- gone.“Changchun was like Hiroshima,” wrote Zhang Zhenglu, a lieutenant colonel in the People’s Liberation Army who documented the siege in “White Snow, Red Blood,” a book that was immediately banned after publication in 1989. “The casualties were about the same. Hiroshima took nine seconds; Changchun took five months.”
The 40,000 who survived did so by eating insects, leather belts and, in some cases, the bodies that littered the streets. By the time Communist troops took over the city, every leaf and blade of grass had been consumed during the final desperate months.
There are no monuments or markers recalling the events that decimated Changchun’s populace. Most young people have no knowledge of the darker aspects of the siege, and the survivors, now in their 70s and 80s, are reluctant to give voice to long-buried trauma. “I’ve always heard that Changchun was captured without bloodshed,” Li Jiaqi, a 17-year-old high school student, said as she sat on the steps in front of the city’s Liberation Memorial.
