What's new

Happy Independence Day!

America is far from perfect, but I think your 4th great grand father wouldn't have been disappointed with what America has become in 240 years.
This kind of speculation is pointless.

I have been in the US for 42 yrs, six of them as a non-citizen. In that time span, there are many things about the US that either disappoint or gladden me about America. But given the complexities that make up a nation and country, as time progresses pulling technology and society along, those complexities compounds to the point where no one of any country can truly express complete disappointment or complete satisfaction of his/her country.

From the time of my arrival to the US until now, life expectancy increased approximately 6 yrs and most likely I will be pulled along with time until my retirement from the workforce. So how would a doctor 200 yrs ago feel about America from the perspective of his profession ?

Homosexuals have always been with us. From politicians to artists, they have always been persecuted. So for the religious zealots of 200 yrs ago, how would they feel about America today when we have homosexuals openly serve in politics, the military, and social life ?

I am not surprised at the US for our progress but I marveled at that same progress, considering I experience that progress continuously. Now imagine the shock of someone 200 yrs ago at being overloaded with modern America.

It's a day early but I just wanted to wish a happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans on PDF! :usflag: I will not be posting regularly, as I will be busy doing what most Americans do in this celebration; fun, fireworks, food, baseball, etc.! And like most Americans, we pause and honor the now 240 year grand experiment that is America. Never perfect, by any means, the history of my country is not the history of democracy, of liberty, of respect for equality among men. It is the 240 year history of the fight for democracy, for liberty, for equality.

Amen to that, and happy 4th to all "Merricans" on this forum :usflag:. Don't forget the term "designated driver". It comes in real handy during this time around. Heading out for the Lone Star fireworks. Everyone have a great 4th and be safe out there

Happy Independence day, make America Great again! :D

American has always been great and that's never changed. We can definitely try to make it greater (as there is always room for further improvement) :enjoy:
