Armed Forces observe Independence Day
Dhaka, Mar 26 (UNB) -Members of Bangladesh Armed Forces joined the nation in observing the great Independence and National Day in a befitting manner on Saturday, a press release said.
The day’s programme began with a thirty-one gun salute at the time of sun rise at the old Airport in the capital this morning.
Special munajat was also offered at all mosques of Army, Navy and Air Force all over the country seeking divine blessings for the peace and progress of the country and development of the armed forces.
President Md Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed floral wreaths at National Mausoleum at Savar with sunrise while members from Army, Navy and Air Force presented guard of honour.
National Flag hoisted atop services’ headquarters and Armed Forces installations. Important buildings, gates, MP check posts and naval ships of the armed forces were illuminated in the evening.
Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force bands performed at Crescent Lake (Sangshad Bhaban Area), Farmgate Park Area and Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur respectively from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Besides, combined band party of Army, Navy, Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh, Police and Ansar & VDP performed at Suhrawardy Uddyan from 3 pm to 5 pm. They played different patriotic and popular tunes.
Few ships of the Bangladesh Navy kept open for visitors from 2 pm to sunset in Dhaka (Sadarghat), Chittagong, Khulna, Mongla, Barisal and Narayanganj.
Headquarters/Unit/Establishment/Ships of three services and messes of Soldiers/Ships Company served feast by their respective services. Feast also served in the Hospitals under three services.
A reception was arranged in Bangabhaban. Selected officers from active list and retired armed forces members were invited in that reception ceremony.
Cinema on Liberation War 1971 displayed in the cinema halls under Armed Forces with free of cost.
