3,000 Gaza teens graduate Hamas terror school

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — More than 3,000 Palestinian teenagers on Thursday graduated from the ruling Hamas terror group’s first high school military training program in the Gaza Strip, displaying mock weapons, crawling commando-style on the ground and taking up fighting positions for thousands of cheering supporters.

Hamas officials said the Futuwwa, or “Youth,” program is aimed at fostering a new generation of leaders in the struggle against Israel.

“We teach the youth to honor the national flag and anthem, to strengthen their affinity with the homeland and Jerusalem, the spirit of resistance and the principles of steadfastness,” said Abu Hozifa, a 29-year-old national security officer who teaches in the program. “We also prepare them in terms of faith and physical fitness to serve as resistance fighters if they want to be in the future.”

The program is a weekly elective that is offered in all Gaza high schools. Officials said 3,600 participated in the first session, which began in September.

During the one-hour session each week, students were taught to climb down buildings on ropes, jump through obstacle courses and crawl under barbed wire. The oldest students are trained to use light weapons, while younger ones train with wooden rifles. Each participant is assigned to a security officer who oversees their training.

The first graduates, called the “Liberation Vanguards,” were dressed in black T-shirts and hats, and some painted their faces black.

“My officer taught me the values of courage, sacrifice and love of jihad, as well as some battle tactics,” said Radwan Wasfi, 15, whose black-painted face dripped with sweat after going through a drill. “I feel that I can free my energy in a good way. I can do for real what I do in video games.”

Hamas’s prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh, who attended the ceremony held at a soccer stadium, said he had ordered his education minister to establish a full-time military college to open next September.

“This is the generation that will bring victory to its people and will liberate their land,” he told the audience.

Hamas, an Islamic terrorist group sworn to Israel’s destruction, seized control of Gaza from the rival Fatah faction of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in 2007.

The group has survived repeated bouts of fighting against Israel, most recently an eight-day flareup of heavy violence in November in which Hamas fired more than 1,500 rockets into Israel and Israel conducted hundreds of airstrikes. The fighting ended in an Egyptian-brokered cease-fire.

Repeated attempts by the rival Palestinian factions to reconcile have sputtered.

Salute to them...every Muslim country shud provide such military education to their citizens..we should know what our enemy got and how to counter it...making bombs and learning guerilla warfare techniques are necessary for us as they will keep attacking us until we remove Jihad from our religion..i can clearly see the hatred of kafirs against Jihad.they especially need to shut up...this is a part of our religion...I never questioned why you drink cow piss...drink it as much as u can or eat dunk for a change but keep ur bullshit to urself

What a completely fool proof plan. Train kids to fight a war, let said kids die in the war, then vilify the enemy for slaughtering children. It's ironic that an organization that portrays itself as the savior and defender of Palestinians would willingly place a target on the backs of children. The perception it creates is more damning than the training itself. There are few measures that would alienate the international community faster than children being taught combat skills.

What about the impact this will have on the psyche of the Israelis? The IDF will be far less forgiving moving forward when dealing with kids acting suspiciously. If a soldier is aware there are Palestinian children trained to inflict harm on him and perceives a child acting aggressively, he will not hesitate to shoot. The blame for such inevitable events will fall on Hamas; though they will easily shift the blame to those "horribly evil" Israelis. As usual, the whole Muslim world will fall in line and call for the destruction of the Jewish state, completely overlooking the harm Hamas has inflicted upon those very same Palestinians.

I completely agree with you. I find this idea of training young children quite sickening, but than again, i am also reminded off the severe warcrimes that Israel has committed against the Palestinians. Gaza can at best be described as a modern day prison, a modern day concentration camp created by the Israeli's for their own petty interests. Their idea of collective punishment against the Palestinians is even more sickening than Hamas's idea of training young youth. When basic human rights that are enshrined in Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) are not provided, you cannot blame a group for resorting to extreme measures just to protect itself. Israeli policies for the last 60 years have forced the Palestinians to resort to these tactics.

Dude its not that the children who graduated with honors from this academy are going to be world beaters..they rather meet their maker even before threy loose their innocence. Is that what you want ?

Vast majority who are not terrorists themselves, support them. When suicide bombings were at their peak in Israel, polls showed that they received 84% support from the grand population of these Arabs.

HAMAS is the biggest obstacle in Palestinian land what I can understand for now. Yashir Arafat was a charismatic person not because of his strength in military warfare but because of diplomacy which these scums have no idea. I can just hope that at least all neighboring countries should put pressure on them to bring them in mainline. They are already derailed & wants to see their country as well in same condition.

Yassir Arafat was the worst terrorist of them all. On the one hand, he preached peaceful resistance but on the other hand, he funded terrorists and taught terrorism to children in the West Bank and Gaza.

Hamas is just being honest, Arafat just knew how to hide his true intentions behind pretty words.
