JF-17 production rate is nearly 20 and 3 squadrons are operational while IAF will receive 2 LCA squadrons in 2018. :rofl: So lets not talk about JF-17 and turn this thread into troll fest.

Dude, don't be daft. Or if you really are this ignorant, please stop commenting. The MK1 will enter service only AFTER it has cleared FOC. It will only enter serial production after clearing the FOC, and that is expected to be soon. The IAF won't fly something without FOCing it first.

The LCA is modern enough. The IAF won't be all stealth jets, in fact other than the USAF, no country can afford to have an all stealth arsenal. The LCA will be more capable than anything in the PAF's arsenal other than thee F-16s.

I think IAF don't want LCA it is imposed on IAF given the money invested in this project and time this project took IAF is in no position to deny purchase, if they do every one will abuse them.

Actually you are right. Ministry of defence said that if Pakistan(PAF) can go with 3rd gen crap(Jf-17), then why can't we(IAF) induct 4th gen LCA.

Not only Mig-21s. Post 2017, we'll have to think about replacing Mig-27. Keep in mind, there hasn't been any replacement for our retired Mig-23 yet.

The MKI is replacing the Mig 23 since the early 2000s and then the Mig 27s in numbers and roles, the additional 40 (+2) might be a reaction to the constant problems with Mig 27 engines, which means the upgraded Mig 27 (and it's Mig 23 trainers) will be replaced by these till 2017 too.
Only a few Mig 27 squads will be replaced by Rafales, mainly in reagions to the north/eastern sector, where new A2A and A2G capabilities are important, but their prime focus will remain on replacing the Bisons.

And IMHO, Su-30MKIs is not replacing the role of any fighter fighter in the inventory, it's an introduction of a new deep strike platform in the force.

MKI as said is replacing the Mig 23 and 27, as it offers the capabilities of both, be it as an air superiority fighter with BVR capability, or an heavy attack strike plattform. It even can use the same weapons they used, which makes it easy to replace them in a logistical sence. That is the advantage of a multi role fighter, in the past we had 100 x Mig 23 for A2A and 100 x Mig 27 for A2G, now we have 200+ x MKIs that can do both, so twice the capability, although the numbers are pretty much the same.

Yes I noticed this too. However if you look at what he actually said ie 2 SQDs (~40 a/c) within the next 5 years=8 a/c per year but considering they certainly aren't going to start production this year so it is more like 40 a/c in 4 years=10 a/c a year if not higher. As such it looks like by 2018 HAL would have completed all Mk.1 deliveries and can then switch onto Mk.2. You'd expect that once they get the hang of it they will be able to churn these birds out faster and faster.

First of all, the production won't be 8 per year, but starts smaller and then increases. Secondly, that's a normal progress of production:

The MK2 will benefit from the production of MK1, since the airframe changes won't be that big, which should make it possible to continue the MK2 production at high rates as well. I am only worried about the new developments that are planned, since any delay in them, will effect the MK2 production as well.

IAF is not compromising its strength/Fleet to induct the MK 1's. That itself is an achievement. We are focused on self reliance and we have achieved it to a certain degree.

FOC could have been achieved if the IAF would have bent its back a little.

What I am getting this thread, as most are arguing that HAL is not capable of mass producing LCA. :what::what:

HAL is producing only 8ac/year due to limited line production order by IAF.

Some days ago there was a news that some aerospace companies have shown interest to help HAL in setting up assembly lines but HAL denied it so it proves two things.

1: IAF is not interested in LCA so they are not pressurizing HAL for fast deliveries of LCA.
2: HAL wants to eat funds on this project as long as they can by undermining the operational requirements of IAF.

Is there any major difference in tejas mk2 than mk1 other than technical?? I read somewhere that there are some defects in mk1 which will be removed in mk2 and then mk1 will be changed to mk2 standard.
Is that true? Anyone answer please.

LCA is one of 3 major fighter projects currently running FOR THE IAF UNTIL 2023 IE NEXT 10 YEARS

1. THE COMPLETION OF 270 SU30MKI (INCLUDING LICENSE BUILDING IN INDIA OF 150) by 2018
2. THE development of the LCA TEJAS PRGRAMME (MK1 40 PLANES BY 2016) & 80 MK2 starting 2018-2024
3. License manufacture of 126 rafale MMRCA starting 2016 -2024 (18 TO BE DELIVERED BY DASSULT BY 2015)

lca is just one part of a massive programme of 500+ fighters to be delivered to the IAF at a cost of over $40 billion by 2024

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LCA TEJAS PROGRAMME its a awesome achivement by HAL AND INDIA

8/year is a very productive rate. Indians take their tea time seriously. They take a long time to get it done right. You don't want to see the LCA falling off the sky like the Mig 21, do you?
