HAL floats RFI for Tejas Mk2

Well, Mark1A and Mark 2 are two different programs managed by different agencies. Mark1A is HAL using DRDO's IP and integrating foreign system upgrades onto Mark1's platform - A2A probe, AESA, etc.

Mark2 is ADA-DRDO creating a further evolution of mark 1. Parallel programs.

Kaveri isn't happening.

GE 414 is going to power it. Eurojet, AL-41 Saturn and Snecma M88 for some reason are not being considered.

It would have been safer to choose the M88 or Eurojet since we burnt our fingers with the GE-404 during the late 90s.
But I heard improved Kaveri will be on display in aero India 19 along with m88.
What is the use of it if its not going in mk2?

This is the air force version. Because of the success of Mk1A, they have decided to completely rejig the LCA design and make it a 17-18T aircraft, hence canards. Now it's MCA, in the same class as the F-16, M-2000 or Gripen E.

It is smart to use the same engine in both the LCA Mk II and the winner of MMRCA 2.0!
Would not happen with the Kaveri.

Modernised Kaveri will have the M88's core, the same engine as the Rafale. :D

Nah, Mk2 is going to stick to the F414. Kaveri is going into IUSAV and AMCA instead.

The best option for kaveri is for the current version to be tested and perfected, and eventually being integrated in the very last tranches of Tejas Mk1As while the F404s remain the majority; similarly for an uprated Kaveri that gives around +95kN at ISA SLS to be integrated in the very last tranches of Tejas Mk2 while the F414 will be the majority.

This way we can still depend on the reliable GE engines while R&Ding the Kaveri which should be used on the 5th gen AMCA in larger numbers than in both Mk1As and Mk2s.

We can order 60 more Mk1A with the Kaveri K9. And we have the option of using Kaveri for the Mk1A's MLU after 15-20 years. But the F404 is here to stay for now, for all 123 LCAs ordered.

The uprated K10 is many years away and it's difficult to say if any new build Mk2s will be equipped with it.

Well that's what we are all hoping for. But given GTRE's track record, I don't think they'd be able to achieve it.

The thrust Kaveri generates is pretty low and that is where our problem is.

Even China has issues despite pouring billions more into the research.

EJ 230 should have been the first choice with 70 KN with TWC. Had this engine been used, Tejas could have kicked @$$ of any other plane with unparallel T/W ratio and great maneuvering. Any way make Kveri same in few years for the replacement of US engines.

AMCA could be powered by K10 engine. Anyway that is also away by another 10-12 years minimum.

GE 414 is powerful; but they have the problem of sanctions. If for some reason someone worse than Trump were to come tomorrow, we would end up in the same spot as we did after 1998.

Mk2 is longer and heavier.
If there's an issue with energy in Mk1, you should see a change in Mk1A. Just some ballast removal and rearrangement in Mk1A.

He doesn't know that the LEVCONS were for allowing safe takeoff and landing of the naval version on carriers and not meant to solve the energy bleeding problem, which will be solved by drastically reducing the empty weight of Mk1A.
