Since Greek economy started to recover the hurts of financial crisis, They started to seek military related purchases again. Aegean and E. Med EEZ is the serious issues between Turkey / Greece and It is likely to spark a military confrontation on sea so We will follow the footprints of Greek Army in this thread. Their media broadcasts about Turkish industry can be one of our issue in this thread as well.

Greece Receives First Batch of OH-58D Kiowa Warrior in 2019

According to Defencepoint.tr, Hellenic Army will receive the first batch of US surplus OH-58D Kiowa Warrior in the first quarter of 2019. Helicopters were acquired by Greece from the US Army for 44.15 million dollars. According to daily, components have already begun to arrive at the warehouses of the Hellenic Army in Agios Stefanos at the premises of 651 ABYP, while a helicopter has already been painted with Greek colours. Helicopters will be equipped with Mast Mounted Sight system above the rotor blade and they will be in monitoring duty on Aegean Sea.

From Greek point of view kind of quite a wise move we should say OH-58D have the potenatial to be a useful asset for the Greek army both in Trakya and Agean. In adittion to their reconnaissance and target distribution capabilities D variant is armed and can also fire hellfire and stinger missiles. As we may remember again as a part of the same EDA (Excess Defense Articles) 400 M1A1 Abrams in 2011 and 40 MLRS in 2013 were approved for Greece however, because of the economic hardship they couldnt manage to get them. I dont know the deal is still alive or not?

The differences between us and them is, we can destroy them they can hurt us. they have still huge amount modern weaons. The amount of anti ship missile and cruise missile is limited according to wiki. Thats why SSB have odered 412 SOM missiles. In war time you will use it like it is 9mm.

They mostly care the name of “Bora” more than SOM itself. Bora missile caused a menthal destruction in their inner World. Knowing availability of a precision strike ballistic missile with a warhead around 500kg in the hands of “hostile” neighbour who is going to target ports, airbases within minutes makes them take a cold shower. Turkey will totally take advantages at psicological warfare when We introduced Bora-2 ballistic missile that is going to have a range longer than previous variant. Combination of Bora family with SOM ALCM, Gezgin SSCM and Atmaca SSM will destroy all barriers West wants to imposr us under the name of power ballance.

for me I do not care what greeks do or what they have..

we should do our thing, our work and focus on indegenious systems and keep this good path..

if we succeed our own fighter aircraft and focus on cruise missles / anti ship with 750 km range and >120-180km air to air missle than the see and air is ours I hope they will enhace all missles soon

if our ballistic missle bora has such a range we could introduce some of them with lesser range but more warhead imagine the impact of a missle with 1ton or 750 kg thermobaric warhead

Indeed, put that S400 on the package we will be complete. They are trying to stop us, no power ballance anymore. We should focus on what we are doing, when we ask for weapons they gived us what they give Greece. 50 cruise missiles and not more, or sidewinder missiles 150 pieces. IF we look to our purchase history you can see they all have limitation, no more then the other side.

When Som whent into serial production, i was so happy to see amount of order. 412 missiles, thats really good to survive a long term war in 3 side. Every missile we make should in couple hunderds and in different variants.

With detterences we have give the Greecs message that ther is no gas deal with out us. And that they understand.
