Govt Plans to Link Pakistan With MiddleEast Through Quetta-Taftan Railway Track

The government is considering a railway network plan, linking Pakistan with Middle Eastern countries through the Quetta-Taftan track.

This was revealed by senior railway officials while briefing the Senate Standing committee on railways which met with Muhammad Asad Ali Khan Junejo in the chair.

Senator Dr. Jahanzeb Jamal Dini said that the Quetta Taftan track has already been constructed and the committee should be informed in the next meeting regarding the provision of train service. The committee was informed that a plan to work with Middle Eastern countries on the project is under consideration and consultations are underway. The Standing Committee also sought details of Quetta-Chaman Track.

Pakistan should be linked to China through railways. It will cut cost of travel and trade plus there are very beautiful sceneries all the way. I have been thinking about it since years.

. . . .
Good. We need to work on increased connectivity within our country.

. . . .
Good. Also go for turkey which we already do have connectivity via iran

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his government is working on restoration of Pakistan-Iran railway link through Quetta-Taftan-Zahedan railway track.

“Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad is exploring all possibilities to complete Iran-Pakistan railway track,” he said, addressing the ground breaking ceremony of Balochistan Health Complex and Quetta-Zhob Dual Carriageway in Quetta today on Friday.
He said the track would be upgraded on build–operate–transfer (BOT) basis.
Quetta-Taftan Railway route is one of four main railway routes in Pakistan which are operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line begins from Quetta station and ends at Koh-e-Taftan station.
The total length of this railway line is 325 kilometers. There are 23 railway stations from Quetta to Koh-e-Taftan. The line then crosses into Iran and extends to Zahedan.
Pakistani railways minister has visited Iran recently and has invited Iran to participate in the bidding process for the Taftan-Quetta Railway Sector (ML 2).

Really looking forward to this.

I've always wanted to take the train into Iran the scenic way.

How will this be done? That will mean we will need to bring Iran on board and Iran is under sanctions.
