The Wagah and the LOC are well fenced. They are now making tunnels to come into India for illegal drug trade in Punjab. That's a different matter and I think BSF should start taking more ruthless measures in the western sector. The wanton destruction of Punjab's youth consuming drugs from Afghanistan is causing a problem.
However, the government needs to focus on eastern borders. LAC is calm but there's illegal trade through the mountains that happens apart from of course the usual friction between IA and PLA. There is also problem at Burmese border where though Burmese Army is friendly, there is a lot of trafficking problem of drugs, arms and other illegal materials.
The MOD needs to lay out a comprehensive strategic plan to fence out all the borders with the countries that we border: Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Burma and water demarcation with the Lankans.
Apart from this, it is crucial that the Nepal-India and Bhutan India border be monitored better to reduce any chances of kidnappers and arms traffickers as well as naxalites.
While the OPEN BORDERS treaty is fine with both the countries and they're welcome, Nepal's policy of open flow for tourism from countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh creates a problem as Nepal border becomes an easy entry point. We may need to fence these borders as well with only some legal check points from where trade and tourism can peacefully flourish and there is peace between us Nepalis and Bhutanese people.
Proper policing, patrolling and procedures along with SOPs to deal with contingent situations hve to be put in place so as to ensure that the borders are peaceful.
