What's new

Govt allow 50 Storey High-rise Buildings in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Multan

Sky scrapers are ugly and non-harmonious, also to include dangerous.

Here's what happened to one such in UAE last year :

.
High rise buildings will only increase the congestion of cities and the traffic congestion on our narrow roads.
High rise building models were introduced in american , where they have 8 lane road in Manhattan and its likes.
High rise buildings will only increase the traffic density

.
khi doesnt have the infrastructure to support high rise building another bs decision by govt

.
This government would do anything if you throw money at them.

High rises lead to ghettos unless being used for commercial purpose...more ghettos lead to more crime and gangs.

.
Would you rather they create small single family houses and spread out wide, developing over farmland, and requiring the government to spend on more services further out.

Urbanization, if done correctly, with the right kind of regulations and laws, can create decent places to live and a cost savings multiplier effect for the economy and the tenants.

if government is not corrupt but eventually it will go down hill. take alook at ex soviet states and run down usa and uk. flats are most depressing places to live in. i know i seen these places in uk. nothing but mouse utopia.

take it from me i live in uk i seen these places and it is depressing. drugs, car crime, children no were to go,, rooms are small you feel like hamster and make you mentally ill. you take out these persons take them to open place like farm and they become very happy. ppl become depressed living like this then you have chaos.

I agree, large 20-30 storey apartment blocks are depressing. I was thinking of more 4-5 story apartment buildings, with a shop on the ground floor. This is the model of dense cities going back to the Carthage and Rome. Yes its the most optimal living situation, but by saving on housing (Costs to the residents, and costs to the society) we can save more farmland and forest land for people to go to. Otherwise we have sprawl of single family homes, and a high cost of providing services. For those of modest means, a decently built 4-5 story apartment building could be a lot better then cheaper build small homes, because land costs are high.

with enough density but not too much, the cities can afford to spend on mass transit and people won’t need to own a personal vehicle to get around.

Something like Sharjah, or a more grid pattern version of old Dubai, and not the tall buildings of modern Dubai.

Cities with buildings tall enough to keep costs down, but short enough so that residents maintain a sense of ownership is key. Along with the right kind of streetscape; such as adequate tree cover over sidewalks to shade people in the heat while cars have the right of way on the streets to get through traffic efficiently.

If more opportunities become available in the large cities, as inshallah economic growth continues, we have to plan for any future growth to be organized. We should study the most urbanized places (like south America) and see how manage the issue. Lima, Peru is a good city that keeps things organized within the modest resources of its residents.

Perhaps preparing for a huge influx of people? But where would all these people come from?

I live in flats, council estates. Full of gangs and drugs, I’ll be honest even i was involved until my grandfather passed away. Government should just make luxury high rises in the city centre, apartments for lower class will eventually lead to more gangs, however if the government provide opportunities for the young lower class kids such as clubs etc they could avoid gangs,

clubs are great but i promise crime wont go down. its about real opportunities like a job. today great government, tomorrow corrupt government who will neglect these ppl.

Could be disastrous without proper regulations of fire and safety hazards, evacuation planning etc.

2 parking spots per apartment plus 2 visitor parking per apartment

All multi-storey buildings should come with some conditions;

- At least 1 parking spot per apartment.
- A communal garden for residents including a childrens play area.

For Bangladesh, one smart city that is planned on this theme is "Purbachal" ("EastWay") which is being built by the Chinese (IT network and connectivity infra).

The other smart city is planned by Defense Housing Society and is named "Jolshiri" ("Stepped Waters"). Jolshiri will be the third or fourth Defence Housing Society in Dhaka and will be a proper smart city with full IoT enabled, with a Central Business district and surrounding Defence officers' housings, civic areas and parks.

Grand plans, we will need to see, how far they get.

Purbachal

Jolshiri

Sorry about the slightly OT post but I'm curious about smartcities in general and those being planned in Pakistan.
