Yes, she cannot give solutions. Giving solutions is what the whole govt is for. The seriousness regarding the Maoist issue is new, while the oppression, the ignorance towards the poor has been there forever. Nobody would give them right, nobody would work for their upliftment. If they cry, they are suppressed. If they go violent, they get labeled as terrorist. What choice do they have? What should they do? Does anything comes in your mind?

Tell me, if some high ranking politician wants your home. Can you do anything to stop him? These people are far less capable than you.

btw we were all suffering the ignorance till the license raj. only now the wheels of development are turning. and just like in every country it begins in the metropolitan cities and moves outward like a web. You can't sit in antartica and demand development, how about move your butt near a city (just like other millions), send your kids to school, attend night classes for english in order to gain employment. god only helps those who are willing to help themselves. when un-educated masses were able to gain independence from the british (even they were oppressed and in-capable), why can't these people do something (constructive) independently. As for my property, if I have bought the place (not that my ancestors decided to place brick/mortar on some land and claim it as their own) , yes I will sell it to the govt. provided it is of benefit to the common people (if they plan to build metro over my property). Govt has those rights by the constitution.

The masses hoped for a better future. What did they get? Ever been to Bengal, Orrisa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh (to name a few), and seen the people? Think there is any change since independence? These people dont understand we had socialism till 90's and now its turn of capitalism. They can't fit themselves in cities. All they know and understand is first they were oppressed by foreigners and now by their own people. You cant think like yourself to understand them. Think like them, and than may be you will realize whats going on.

Arundhati Roy is just an attention seeker.I have read her article in outlook long time back regarding the Maoists problems and the very next week the Ambush and deaths of the forces happened. Her words have no effect or consequence regarding on how the Maoist menace should be tackled.

Listen dude, stop being naive. No one denies the fact that tribals have suffered injustice and poverty. Yes the problems were ignored in the past, and they finally took arms to get their rights. But now, its not a struggle for rights or development anymore.
The govenment is trying its best to reach out to these areas, provide roads, electricity, schools. If the Maoisis cared for develoment, they would not derial trains, shoot our men, blow up schools, murder any person in the name of police informer. A billion dollar package is not what the problem demands anymore. It demands bullets and blood. They have declared war against the Indian state. Delhi is where they want to reach. sucks for the tribals then to have chosen the wrong leaders then. "What did they get"? people don't get to demand, they need to understand the system in place and play the game for their own benefits. they want to change the govt., fine run for elections, get to power and then change whatever you don't like. when idiots like mayawati can come to power, who's stopping the tribals or their "educated" leaders.
