General Motors calls it quits on auto sales in once-promising India

I don't know that, but I do know China alone accounts for half of India's overall trade deficit, it seems you do buy things from us.
we are business provider or sometime the connection. i buy lot from there.
our perception of china is not same. we know how they work how their made in china campaign is working.
how they are improving quality now. whe its not time for quantity go for quality.

indian economy is driven alot by china. and benefits are mutual. we dont buy to consume but we also sale further.

. .
GM/Chevrolet made a mockery of their own brands by selling cheap China/Korea cars like Daewoo Matiz, Enjoy etc rebranded as Chevy in India. They are left with nothing.

.
Much of it black money being laundered...it is the quality of FDI and not quantity..
For example FDI in high tech sector is much more valuable than FDI in super markets.
On the contrary most of the FDI in India is in the High Tech sector. There goes the so called valuable FDI.
Here is the sector wise FDI inflows. Black Money as FDI is laughable.

Elite troll ...lol

Though some its cars where a must buy, i am not aware about its after sale services though that seems to be a majot reason for its flop show in India.

Nope, the quality of cars they made and sold in India just SUCK. They were even offering FREE 3 years warranty, still nobody wanted to buy them.

That should tell you the whole story.

In India, Germany and Japan stand for quality. China for cheap goods. South Korea for value for money.

US automobiles stand for poor quality, poor support and maintenance headache.

Lack of enough service centers. Parts are a bit too expensive. You might remember their ad "3 years and spend nothing." After that it could cost of dearly. The service were good but you need to travel at some cases 50KM to reach a service point.
Unlike Maruthi-Suzuki which has a service center and spare parts readily available in every corners, GM under estimated the customers and most of all the Indian roads.
Hyundai is in line, unless they immediately improve their service.

Funny thing is that the China's largest automaker SAIC Motor has signed a formal agreement to buy a General Motors factory in India.

SO you can very well imagine the quality of chinese cars.
China is the world biggest car maker , a pretty big achievement for a country who is just a new kid on the block. Chinese made cellphones have already dominated your country and other industries are soon to follow. You only talk about which foreign brand might be better or value for the money, never think about how to replace them, that's our main difference in mentality.

Hyundai is still better placed than other companies and have a lot of room to improve unlike GM as an example. Though an article talked about decision making process in these companies which is true and most of the time effect ther rise

Cellphones are happy go lucky devices. But when it comes to cars, people prefer established brands like Suzuki, Mahindra, VW, Tata, Fiat etc... It takes time to invest and I'm not expecting any huge Chinese take over of Car industry anytime soon.

So ? ...... are you under the mistaken impression that we give a damn ? :cheesy:

Typical chinese loud mouth and boasting.
You don't have to give a damn, ask around the world to see who is only good at boasting and who is the one hard working. you are boasting of boycotting Chinese goods but the truth is you just can't love them more. Learn to make thing by yourselves, until then you get no respect from anyone.

Instead of the chest beating and trolling, these are the facts.

A car company that does well in India has to have commitment, staying power and an India specific strategy. Look at Renault - it kept going on and on, continuing to stick on despite losses, and is finally doing very well.

GM did not have a strategy for India, or at least it's top management did not.

GM did come up with a great car - the Chevrolet Cruze - which enthusiasts loved. But it's pricing wasn't exactly right and they did not follow up with better iterations, preferring to stick or a decade old frame.

They weren't successful at other - lower- price points either.

It's not a comment on India, it's a comment on their own strategy.

My Chinese friends shouldn't gloat. And if I were to talk of the experiences of foreign businesses in China- the state led cheating, the rip offs of partners, the relentless hijacking of IP- the story wouldn't end.

People are not stupid , they don't come to China to get ripped off or cheated and they increasingly keep coming for more than 3 decades. Doesn't this fact makes your logic sound ridiculous?

.
I have already started seeing comments from our liberal saying "This is the failure of Modi government's 3 years policy" without bothering to do a simple Google search on how much the car manufacturer KIA is investing in India

.
Make in India or Quit in India?

Yes It is Make in India , they have stopped sales in India but Increasing their production capavity.

India is a very attractive destination for them to manufacture and export. Production capacity of their Plant will increase even after stopping sales in India.

Brands like Ford, VW, GM, Nissan export more than domestice sales in India.
