This is the direct response to the GM selling off Opel and Vauxhall. They are the ones that provided the smaller and also the diesel engines. Moreover, though GM was and also is the largest automaker on the planet, their european operations were in loss for almost two decades. This takes away the profitability from most markets down to zero.

India was profitable for them but their OWN cars (not the knocks of sub brands) start from 14 Million Rupees which is steep considering their hold and stay in the market.

One the other the American market is on the boom where they make the behemoth and the gas guzzlers better than anyone.

Once their current President is gone, I think they will reverse the trend to conform their brand and markets. As for my concerned chinese friends, the grapes are sour.

i was there in March. howrah to chandni market was full of such taxi. although no denying Kolkata traffic police and the people drive in control

Man those yellow taxis has decreased to huge extent..My home is in Kolkata & I can say such..Also those auto rickshaws are being replaced by E Rickshaws slowly slowy.It's a matter of time

they quit JLR considering it is not worth keeping in their portfolio...Indian company bought it over and see its performance today...I would call it the best of best companies in auto industry today in terms of quality and revenue! It doesn't make any difference to India on how General Motors deals with its internal inefficiencies ..they failed in India because they were not the winners!
