Hamas did this due to the murders of 200+ Palestinians this year. Due to the assaults on Palestinian prisoners. To free Palestinian prisoners. And due to the assaults on Palestinian worshippers both Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem.

It's not to liberate all of the Palestine. The military tactics displayed here are brilliant. And spare Gaza a brutal aerial assault. And also allows Palestinians to cause balance of casualties. Israeli death toll is close to 600 if not more.
