As much as I support the Palestinian cause, Hamas has done more damage to Palestinians in the long-term.
Look, I get it, the frustration and humiliation the Palestinians are experiencing is unforgivable, but Hamas should know better that there is no military solution.
The Arab nations have fought and lost three wars against Israel, and if their combined efforts cannot defeat the Israelis, what makes Hamas think they can? They sent their own fighters on a suicide mission into Israel, knowing they won't come back. They knew full well the Israeli response, and this time, if the Israelis don't ethnically cleanse the Gaza strip, they will now routinely bomb Gaza at the mere suspicion of even a mouse sneezing.
Given that Israel is a nuclear power, and has the full backing and unconditional support of the only global superpower, there is no military solution. All that Hamas has done is to lash out in a one hit wonder, but ultimately in the long term, it's going to hurt them and Palestinians the most.
The Palestinians had an opportunity to create some sort of authority resembling a state when the Israelis unilaterally withdrew, but what did the Palestinians do? They vote in Hamas, who then even oppressed their own people, and effectively is now a dictatorship. The Palestinians in Gaza are caught between a rock and hard place, with Hamas and Israelis fighting and they're caught in the middle.
The first casualty of war is the truth, and this war is no different.
