Galwan Clash: Bollywood To Boycott China Market!
INDIABOLLYWOOD
By OB Bureau On Jun 21, 2020

Mumbai: Bollywood may shun marketing its movies in China for the time being amidst the growing anti-Chinese sentiment in India following the Galwan valley clash.

“Anyway due to COVID-19, all markets including China have come to standstill. So I don’t think any production house would think about releases till the situation improves. But even then, we would have to look at the existing political situation and I do think producers will be compelled to stay away from releasing films in China,” a filmmaker told Live Mint on condition of anonymity.

On the other hand, film distributor and exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said the Chinese market at best is a “good add-on” because China anyway doesn’t allow more than three or four Indian films a year. “We can always let it go,” Rathi added.

The Bollywood success story in China began more than a decade ago with Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ that grossed Rs 16 crore there. It was followed by ‘PK’ (Rs 123 crore), ‘Dangal’ (Rs 1,200 crore) and ‘Secret Superstar’ (Rs 700 crore). Other hits came with Irrfan Khan’s ‘Hindi Medium’ (Rs 300 crore) and Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Andhadhun’ (Rs 324 crore).

Industry experts said massive screen count is an important factor for Indian films to have managed such impressive theatrical returns in China. Then there is the difference in ticket rates. The average ticket price in China is $12 compared with India’s $1.5. But most importantly, Indian stories with their strong emotional chord have resonated with Chinese audiences, who are used to either Hollywood spectacles or Chinese mythologies and fantasies.

. . . . . . . . . .
Haha, as if it had a market here and people care for those craps.

LOL I laughed when I read the article.

Oh noes... the Chinese aren't going to get to watch Bollywood movies!

I'm sure they're absolutely devastated.

Damn I was looking forward to the Bollywood movie of this brawl where the Indian protagonist kills an entire battalion of Chinese troops then captures hundreds on his own in hand to hand combat.

In the middle of the fight everybody will suddenly sing and dance, then go back to fighting after the song ends.

As if they're the ones to talk. No one watches shitty Bollywood movies anymore. So many third-rate model cum actors with blank expressions therefore, I don't even watch the trailers. Why is someone like Arjun Kapur an actor apart from the fact that he's a producer's son? I only did theatre during school/college many many years ago, but can still give Arjun proper tuitions in acting. Why would anyone pay money to watch him act?

Moreover, poor dialogue-writing, and overused cliches have been a familiar tale of Bollywood for at least one decade. They have absolutely zero talent at the moment of writing.

I know 3 Idiots was a hit in China, but Aamir Khan doesn't work much anymore (almost retired).

I bet 99% of tech savvy Indian when viewing this news, they are using made in China smartphone , PC or laptop. From Huawei, oppo, Xiaomi to Apple.
Soon such hypocrisy will be a thing of past.

There are few other Bollywood movies that made $$$$ in China but I don't remember the names.

Their loss.
