Strange how the establishment belts out embarrassing gaffes on the LCA Tejas at a time when it is seriously floundering. First, DRDO chief VK Saraswat went and embarrassed himself by stating recently that the LCA Tejas was to be inducted into the Indian Air Force this year. Now, the UPA government's report to the people on its achievements says that the "induction of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas in the Indian Air Force" was a "major milestone during the year" (see Times of India report, left). Better still, the report mentions this phantom milestone alongside such actual ones as the testing of Agni-V and Agni-IV. Now, here's the thing: data for these reports is invited from each government department, and you can be sure that this is a paragraph provided to the Prime Minister's Office by the DRDO itself. I'm just wondering what they think they're doing, and whether they still believe we're all a bunch of idiots. If the LCA Tejas programme is having trouble and is still on course, why muddy it further by patent falsehoods? I'm sorry, this is plain embarrassing, and it's a lesson the DRDO never learns.

To counter junk aircrafts LCA is more than enough with advanced avionics, sensor suite and weapons :P

You don't need state of the art aircraft to counter junk. Trainer ACs can do it for you too. Why waste money then? To counter US's F22 I guess?

The problem with IAF that their expectation with DRDO is too much they want f-22 type aircraft and Problem with DRDO is that don't don't have enough technology to build F-22 type aircraft, the reason is that indian was always depended upon foreign defence supply and never think about to develop indigenous technology. when tejas project given to the DRDO, at that time don't even have technology to build basic trainer then don't think about advance aircraft and that's why tejas took long time and still in development phase but i hope our next aircraft project will not take long time just like we take long time to develop basic missile like prithiv and other but we take only 3-4 year to develop ICBM Agni V . however i still think 30 and Rs. 25000 is not a big money to develop a good fighter aircraft specially for those country who don't even have basic technology.

The Issue is trust in your indigenous industry/efforts, Indian Navy completely trust the local industry & because of that we have build world class ships like the Shivalik class frigate (most heaviest stealth frigate in the world) & many others, Why the IAF doesn't trust the local industry as such? Also they continuously change there requirements for LCA tejas everytime, they have to understand that changed requirements cannot be accommodated immediately. As per time issue, every fighter program in the world have taken at least 20 to 25 years so how can it be different for India (India build 2nd gen aircraft before tejas, so it was a switch from 2nd gen to 4th gen!!). I am of the opinion that the capabilities of the LCA Tejas is among the best fighter aircraft in the world any given they. It should be inducted in IAF in huge nos. & also very soon.

Navy themselves design those ships. they have setup huge infrastructure for designing and testing. Airforce and army isnt interested in those. if navy changes their goal post it affects them.

navy is most pragmatic section of armed forces, when AF and ARMY were busy in whining navy started focusing on local development.

:woot: Where did you get that from???

It was DRDO that promised an indigenously developed radar and engine and made the LCA development completely dependent on these minor developments. They badly failed and that's why the whole LCA development had to suffer these huge delays!
Infact, IAF was the only one that still is rejecting the Kaveri / Snecma engine development, because they want DRDO to get it done alone, but even they have no hope to make that engine useful and prefer foreign help!

IAF or now IN as well are delaying certain operational clearings, but the main problem in this development is clearly DRDO and as it seems, they are doing the same mistakes with AMCA again!

It can outclimb Su-30

Maximum takeoff weight of Su-30 is 25,800
And JF-17 2,586... You can see who is the winner here..

Even if Su-30 outclimbs JF-17, Su-30 has to regain the G's it pulled and it will be easy peasy for JF-17 SD-10!

My RC planes weight is only 5 kg.. can out-climb both and even F-22
