What's new

Future Typhoon development.

thank you for reminding me, typhoon's RCS is 0.5 sqm while the best RCS attributed for falcon is 1 sqm. also i forgot to mention the super cruising capability of EF which gives it better position in air superiority missions.
@LeGenD
typhoon isn't second best air superiority fighter after f22 that's stealthy f35

typhoon is far more expensive then f16 no Western Allie other than members of ef prjloject and Arab nations (obviously politicql reason) r buying typhoon or rafales all r buying f16 or other USA 4 g jets because they r the most cost effective solutions

if we buy typhoon which would be without any discount it would eat our funds for azm

For reference: http://www.defense-aerospace.com/ar...eurofighter-looks-to-future-improvements.html

"The fact is that, while the electronically-scanned Captor-E radar first flew on Eurofighter in 2007, and while the four partner nations have spent €1 billion on its full-scale development, so far none of the four has decided to retrofit it to its Typhoons.

It has become even touchier since the United Kingdom decided not to retrofit the Captor-E to its own Typhoons, while the Italian defense ministry, already unable to meet its defense funding obligations, seems to consider an AESA radar on Typhoon an unnecessary expense.

Both Britain and Italy operate the Lockheed F-35, whose capabilities in this respect are claimed to far exceed what Typhoon could do even with an AESA radar. The British and Italian military have come to believe their own hype about the F-35’s capabilities, and so see little reason to invest in an AESA radar for Eurofighter."

Captor-E will achieve IOC in 2020.

Maximum range of AN/APG-83 is 370 KM, based on this source: http://cmano-db.com/pdf/sensor/5555/

Sensitivity factor of AN/APG-83 is largely unknown at present but since it is based on AN/APG-81, you are looking at a radar far more capable than Captor-M if not Captor-E. However, even Captor-E is a joke in comparison to AN/APG-81. So you can do the math.

an f-14 AWG-9 can have 370, 250 and 85 km ranges against 5, 1 and 0.01 sqm RCS targets so do not twist the ranges.
the fact is EF radar can detect a target with 1 m^2 RCS at 180 km while F-16 with it's AN/APG-83 can detect same target at 160 km. the fact that signal processing power of captor is weaker than AN/APG-83 does not affect the above mentioned fact. F-16 V maybe can search more area or target more enemy jets with better battle management but that does not change the fact that euro fighter will detect the viper first.

pal F-16 block +70 is not cheap either.

You are taking the 160 KM vs. 2m^2 revelation as gospel which is gross error on your part. Nobody will provide you exact performance parameters of AN/APG-83 so openly.

Maximum target detection range of AN/APG-83 exceed 300 KM mark (go as far as to 370 KM mark) but sensitivity is unknown at these ranges.

Secondly, you need to factor-in countermeasures as well as additional factors that will influence target detection possibilities for either aircraft. There is no easy answer in this matter but it is being hinted that F-16 Block 70/72 have no peer in the 4.5th generation class at present. Countries which are evaluating this aircraft, are completely sold to it. So...
