North Korea on Thursday vowed to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States, amplifying its threatening rhetoric hours ahead of a vote by UN diplomats on whether to level new sanctions against Pyongyang for its recent nuclear test.

An unidentified spokesman for Pyongyang’s Foreign Ministry said the North will exercise its right for “a preemptive nuclear attack to destroy the strongholds of the aggressors” because Washington is pushing to start a nuclear war against the North.

Although North Korea boasts of nuclear bombs and pre-emptive strikes, it is not thought to have mastered the ability to produce a warhead small enough to put on a missile capable of reaching the U.S. It is believed to have enough nuclear fuel, however, for several crude nuclear devices.

Such inflammatory rhetoric is common from North Korea, and especially so in recent days. North Korea is angry over the possible sanctions and over upcoming U.S.-South Korean military drills. At a mass rally in Pyongyang on Thursday, tens of thousands of North Koreans protested the U.S.-South Korean war drills and sanctions.

I hereby would like to prevent the North Koreans some suffering, and remind the American and South-Korean administration that "economic sanctions" do not hurt the regime, but rather the people under control of the regime.

Therefore, do not drive the North-Koreans further into a corner, Americans and South-Koreans.

Allow them less sanctions, a significant reduction in (economic) sanctions, and let them feed their own starving people a bit better.

I EMPLORE YOU, Americans. Don't light the fire of thermonuclear war.

That old saying comes to mind "You can't fix stupid" He would rather let his own people starve and get blown to bits than change policy and make the world a better place! Now that is STUPID!

Well....if they can't nuke US, they will certainly do that to South Korea .... People should not take this threat lightly....

buddy fact is using nuke is not so easy, if NK nuke SK , other opposite parties will Nuke NK. Nuke is only for last worst scenario.

Tell that to little Un ..... We are dealing with a Kid here ...the kind of kid who scream "NUCLEAR WAR" the very second they get emotionally upset ...except that this guy is leading a country and not posting in PDF or youtube .....

Nobody stops the current regime from "feeding their own starving people" save the regime itself.

Invasion and conquest would be more merciful but my guess is the U.S. isn't going to make that call; the S.K.'s and Chinese will.

North Korea's statement isn't important as an immediate threat but rather as a statement of the regime's new goal, now that it has a working nuclear weapon: to shrink it and develop missiles and warheads that it can use to destroy the United States in a "preemptive" - that is, in this context, an unprovoked and morally unjustifiable - attack. The surest way to "light the fire of nuclear war" is to help the regime, yes? And is there any Pakistani who will say he will refuse to do profitable business with North Korea on these grounds?
