i have read some words from hakim muhammad muhammad said's biography(a reknowned philanthropist) and he says that
"there were millionaire 20 family who became a thousand families, and these familes have hijacked the entire pakistani nation(talking about feudalism)"
i know 1971 incident could have been prevented, if we had not disintegrated on communal base and hadn't become a tool of other enemies who wanted pakistan ideologically be razed into the ground. if we had struggled long before this incident for a better pakistan, together as one nation, then we would have seen a prosperous pakistan miles ahead of korea, japan china. how shamelessly we are behind india in terms of growing economy, which indeed rooted the hatred among us.
we have to move on any how.
but as a pakistan i must say, we must and have to learn this lesson which we haven't since 1971 before its too late, and struggle for our future.
It was not the 'other enemies' that had created discord between the two wings of Pakistan in 1971. It was the west pakistani civil-military-political elites who are responsible for a military crackdown in Dhaka and other places that had decided the separation.
With all the political jargons, there was not a single Bangali who uttered "Pakistan Murdabad" for the fear of being castigated as an Indian agent. But, after the crackdown and the subsequent killing by the Punjabi troops everybody started to shout that slogan.
Had the govt of Pakistan really learned from 1971 event, it would not have then indulged in the act of depriving the Balooch people. Voices of these people are not heard at the decision making level of the govt of Pakistan. So, their leaders meet Indian agents in Kabul, they are so desparate.
On the contrary, no one can claim that any Bangali leader conspired with India before the '71 crackdown. West pakistani leaders forced us to get Indian help by putting guns at our heads. The would-be-Prime Minister of Pakistan was arrested and hooliganism was started by the Pakistan army.
When Ayub Khan seized the State power in 1958 citing the wrongdoing by the politicians, it was the beginning of demise of an united Pakistan. A democratic constitution was not written by that time. A few years before, when Mohammed Ali Bogra of east pakistan was the PM, he proposed a system whereby the central Pakistan govt would be ruled by leaders from both wings. He proposed if the PM is from west, then the President shall be from the east.
There were four heads of State or govt from east Pakistan, all were democratic minded. Even we people agreed to the principle of parity, although we were a majority.
But, all his goodwill gestures were shown cold shoulder, and today, as a result of hunger for power by the military generals of Pakistan, the country has been divided into two. It is not India who did it, it was west pakistan that did it.
However, I, after 37 yrs, do not personally regret that BD is separate from the west. Both of these two countries should now try to forge a good relationship and help each other in times of needs.
