MOSCOW (BNS): INS Teg, the first of the three new Talwar class guided missile frigates, being built by Russia for the Indian Navy, has completed sea phase acceptance trials.

According to Yantar Shipyard, all that remained was to finish the interior premises and present operational documents to the crew.

The frigate's acceptance took place in the Baltic Sea. The trials began on 5 March and ended on 7 April.

The shipyard said all shipboard systems including armaments were tested in the presence of the customer's state commission and INS Teg proved herself to be fully ready for final stage of acceptance trials which started on Monday.

The handover ceremony of INS Teg to Indian Navy will be held on 27 April at Yantar Shipyard.

In 2006, India and Russia signed a $1.6 billion contract for the construction of three modified Krivak III class guided missile frigates.

INS Teg was laid down at Yantar in 2007 and became the first of three Project 1135.6 ships built for Indian Navy. The other two frigates - INS Tarkash and INS Trikand - are still at various stage of development at Yantar shipyard.

Our Navy is truly on the way to becoming a blue water navy...This is what long term vision and streamlined procurement process can achieve...Our Army should learn from our Navy !!

out of the branches of the military the navy is indeed the most professional and capable of controlling the entire Indian ocean however we cannot call ourselves a blue water navy yet.... a blue water navy can take wars to places thousands of miles away Indian navy is definitely a top regional navy because the chances of india fighting wars far away is very low all we need to do is control our backyards and as far as to between Korea and South America

We gona need a lot more of these and more advanced models in good numbers to become BLUE water navy. It's not going to be happen in near future.

eg We don't have a single carrier battle group when one should have atlest 3 to be Blue water navy( one offence + one defence + one in maintainance as reserve)

We are good, even best in region though

Howdy, the controller of Indian Ocean, say if there is a ship being captured by some Somalian pirates, can the owner get compensate from IN?

The IN is not an insurance agency. That is the insurance agency's job, to give compensation.

How come you can't understand the difference between a navy and an insurance agency, with your "high iq"?

Every country has rights to boost its navy on level where they can defend its water, balance of updating technologies within army, air and navy not so simple being in particular type of politics in strategic forces.

india will have "Blue Water" capability when induction of two new ACs,new LPDs and few more surface combatant and atleast 15-20 new submarines will be completed.though india doesn't have to deploy expeditionary forces...only controlling Indian Ocean will do...

IN has blue water capability potential but it needs a dedicated amphibious warfare strike group without a multiple CBG's and nuke subs are great additions but one piece is forgotten which is a helicopter carrier to transport troops and help out in humanitarian aid missions. when all of that is in the IN's arsenal then it will truly be a blue water navy

yup...specially when maintaining a army so massive in a hostile region...our "Lost Decade" is taking its toll..

You should ask your countryman who gave me that compliment. By the way may I say thanks to him/her?

And I feel sorry that you (both) didn't get the pun about controller. Maybe I was wrong about Indians who know English.
