Friday prayers held in parts of pakistan amid strict lockdown

@Joe Shearer @Armchair

This is essentially loosely your conscription / militia debate.

But a different scenario.

Not war fighting.

But homeland defence.

One side is dead. The other is terminally crippled.

Now it's a populace on populace free for all with zero borders.

In such scenarios, power and water are gone.

Fide logistics are broken.

The populace us now fractured, leaderless, local, area dominant. Not even regional rallying points.

The violence and anarchy is not just national now.

There is essentially no nation construct left.

This is fine as a thought experiment, but the conditions are so bizarre that they can be coped with only by Mad Max. I am quite willing to exercise reasonable speculation on a reasonable scenario.

Mad Max is rather xtreme.

Delhi and Islamabad are gone.

Maybe some state structure survives.

There is no central control.

This IS a post-nuclear scenario, right? I am worried that you do not find that extreme.

What is likely to happen is that the states of Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat(!!!) are likely to face the brunt of any post-holocaust hostility, although I imagine both populations will be too busy trying to figure out what to do for any serious fighting to break out. On the contrary, people suggesting war are likely to be set afloat on the ocean main without oars.

Is this what you are suggesting?

Correct.

There have been nukes lobbed. Some cities are gone.

The Pakistani army in its dying throes nuked Delhi and Mumbai. Poona too probably.

India retaliated with Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

There is no central command.

There is no law.

There is no border.

There is no power grid. Landlines are working. So is patchy internet and cellular networks.

Why not Mad Max because rural India and Pakistan are relatively untouched.

Nukes don't destroy everything. It has limit. Many people will survive in cities even after being nuked. A city like delhi will need 100 1MT nuke to be almost heavily destroyed except for military bunkers and fortified infrastructure.

India has 70% population in villages and that means most of Indian population will be safe. I don't see how you claim that India will be crippled. Lack of central leadership doesn't mena crippled. People who survive will get another leader elevated. Considering the vastness of the population in villages and smaller cities and the presence of large number of grassroot leaders, the leadership crippling won't be significant.

It's not difficult to cripple a country.

Nukes are not only to be used as people killers. Their main use would be as city and country killers first.

People killer use is more as a deterrent to future conflict. Thats not the scenario I'm painting.

But that discussion would derail the guns/militia issue.

Despite the government's efforts to ensure that a lockdown stays in place, it has been reported that crowds are gathering in mosques for Friday prayer congregations in different parts of the country.

At Islamabad's Red Mosque, hundreds have gathered for Friday midday congregational prayers, in defiance of government orders on social distancing in the wake of the country's coronavirus outbreak.

In contrast, other mosques in the Pakistani capital have also held congregational prayers, but advised people to maintain distance

The prayer congregations have been restricted to five people in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. Yet, every Friday authorities face challenges in enforcing the rule as people gather for Friday prayers across the country.

Some mosques have ensured social distancing, however.

On the issue of guns we are different planets.

I have half a mind to start a what if thread for Indians later

What if our army falls and the armed hordes of Pakistan stream into India.

What sort of planning do we need?

Training. Logistics. Mobilization.

Most of us at max would have knives, sticks, hockeys, rods, and a couple of swords at home.

Maybe this is a program the RSS and HMS need to look into.

Pakistani invasion is not on top of my mind.

Something else bothers me, Sir. We both know a special community residing in India has stock piled AK-47s and RDX
