NEW DELHI: After bagging the multi-billion dollar contract for supplying 126 Rafale fighter aircraft to IAF, French Dassault Systems has opened an Indian subsidiary company here.

The company named Dassault Aircraft Services India Private Limited ( DASIPL) was set up recently and it is 100 per cent owned by its French parent company, officials said here.

The new company is headed by a French national Richard Lavaud, who has worked in India earlier with defence firms, and will work towards finalising the deal with India, they said.

Earlier this year, Dassault Rafale had emerged as the lowest bidder in the IAF tender for supplying 126 combat aircraft edging out its European rival Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft in terms of prices.

The contract has been offered to Dassault and it is negotiating the terms and conditions and the final price of the aircraft with the Indian Defence Ministry officials.

Dassault has also entered into an agreement with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) for partnering in defence and homeland security sectors in the country.

There was a possibility of the two companies working together in the combat aircraft deal here.

After finalising the deal, Dassault will have to reinvest 50 per cent of the contract's worth back into the Indian defence sector.

Mukesh Ambani-headed has made several efforts in the past to position itself in the defence, internal security and aerospace solutions sectors.

I hope Reliance gets to make the SPECTRA suite in India.

All 126 within 2020? Not possible. Atleast 2023.

But we'll have ~ 300 MKIs within 2020, and atleast 150-180 of them upgraded to super sukhoi standard.

Contract will be inked we hope in Q1 of 2013 with first deliveries expected in 2015

The deal will be signed this FY (so by end of March 2013) for sure. All 126 Rafales will be delivered by 2021 as mandated by the contract.

2021 also ok. but that time every nation will be busy in 5th gen fighter induction.

if US capable of producing more than 100 fighter per annum means why notwe produce atleast 21 per annum though we are not producing it by our own. dassault only going to help.

I think you're over exagerating- only the very richest nations will be thinking about 5th gen fighters and F35 deliveries should just have begun. And don't forget the PAK-FA/FGFA will begin inductions ~2020

Problem is with HAL which has already caused a delay

As per latest news emerging in media , MOD will not be able to start negotiations with French manufacturer Dassault to ink the MMRCA L1 bidder Dassault Rafale since HAL has missed the deadline for the filing license production evaluation report.

If negotiations had taken place as per original schedule , first few Rafale made in France by Dassault could have started arriving in India by 2015 , but now that can be pushed back to 2016 .

this will also mean that local production of rafale in HAL complex will also be delayed , HAL has been notorious in having delays in setting up production facility for aircraft’s , Internal redtape with the state-owned HAL has been criticized by Air force and defence experts many times in past .

Recently after complains filed by a member of Parliament into allegation of corruption in MMRCA L1 bidding process was not found to be true and MOD had cleared the whole MMRCA Bid has been termed has appropriate and within the terms of the Request for Proposals and Defence Procurement Procedure, 2006.

Dassault has been able to appoint local suppliers and partners for the rafale in India within this time frame , poor planning by HAL on its part will cost some few months and sources are also skeptical if HAL will be able to setup a Production plant in India in time frame to start manufacturing aircraft’s , In Sukhoi deal HAL for some time took help from Russian firms to assemble Kits supplied by Russian partner which lead to higher import cost since it was not able to Indigence the complete production in India for which CAG had heavy criticized the state-owned company .

Sources in Air force are hope full that HAL learns from it mistake and keeps pace with developments and keeps delivery of aircraft’s in time , HAL not only has to increase man power for this deal in time but also has to set up different production facility for aircraft’s and engine manufacturing .

I think HAL already produce approx. 20 ac (1 squad) of su-30mki each year apart from other projects, till the rafale production begins in India, it will have 2 parallel production lines, meaning 30+ ac produced each year for sure.

I think many members here didn't saw the article i posted in the Doc's Rafale Encyclopedia:

Pre-Flight Operation Involving The Rafale Fighter Aircraft At Its Airbase.....And Then Whoooosh!!!, Up It Goes [Video] - AA Me, IN

which said:

"While Rafale will give some aircraft in flying condition to the defence forces, the rest will come as kits to be assembled. It’s more like completely knocked down kits,”

This certainly will increase the no. of ac produced by HAL each year.

:bunny: good news.

Don't worry about this fact as we will also be inducting FGFA by then and god forbid if everything goes well, AMCA might also be in testing phase by then....also name one country which is going for entire air fleet of 5th gen ACs....4 and 4++ gen fighters are gonna stay for a while. Even US will have 4th and 4.5++ gen ACs in it's fleet.

This certainly will increase the no. of ac produced by HAL each year.

That's normal for any licence production, the important point is how fast the manufacturer will be able to assemble the fighter and that's normally slower at the begining and getting faster with more experience. It will take time till the first licence produced squadron will be ready, one reason I want more squads delivered by Dassault.
