French Dassault opens Indian subsidiary for Rafale deal

That's normal for any licence production, the important point is how fast the manufacturer will be able to assemble the fighter and that's normally slower at the begining and getting faster with more experience. It will take time till the first licence produced squadron will be ready, one reason I want more squads delivered by Dassault.

I would like to see simultanious production in France and India especially in the early years while HAL is getting the hang of constructing the Rafale. But this woul most likely push up unit costs for those built in France.

The deal will be signed this FY (so by end of March 2013) for sure. All 126 Rafales will be delivered by 2021 as mandated by the contract.

It will be same as MKIs. First few will come off-shelf. Next partial knock-down kits and after that completely knock down kits then the whole production from raw material.
