As I wrote once,it's fair to say France doesn't actually consider and see Turkey as an ally,more like an opponent to which there will be an inevitable confrontation. (small or large scale)

Not a matter of "ifs" but a matter of "when". Both countries are opposed on so many issues,such as Cyprus,Greece,the whole mediterranean,Libya,Syria etc.

The incident involving three Turkish frigates and the Courbet was the prelude of something bigger happening in the future. Both countries refrained from opening fire,who knows next time... Both are ready to safeguard their interests at any costs...

That doesn't bode well for the alliance. It certainly seems that Turkey and France are at loggerheads, but I don't believe a confrontation is pending. There's too much to lose.
