France offers Russia 785 mln euros to ditch warship deal: Report

. .
Yeah there was a news regarding that...
some tender was floated in 20 13
We have a requirement of 4 LHDs but haven't heard much on that....
are our LHDs under construction??

The tender is still on, but officially is for LDP's, but thanks to the bad habit of IN to send out RFP's that doesn't make clear what they actually want, the Mistral class actually would fit the specs too, which is why DCNS is offering it. The problem with the once for Russia however are, that they already are in production, which would reduce the Indian industrial benefit and of course the political problem, since Russia won't be that happy if we interfere with their deals, as long as they have not settled it with France.
The bigger question is, do we really need these vessels? When you look at the recent operations of IN, when was the INS INS Jalashwa actually used? We sent smaller Frigats to Iraq and Yemen to rescue Indian citizens, we sent smaller vessels and the Fleet Tanker to the Maldives, when they had the water problem and with IAFs currently increased strategic lift capability with all the IL 76 and C17s (+AI Airliners), air transport will be the prime solution anyway. That's why we even increase that capability along our islands, by raising more air strips, capable of operating larger aircrafts.

Paris and Moscow close to Mistral Warships compensation deal - watch on - uatoday.tv

Paris likely to pay Moscow between 800 and 1.1 billion euros

According to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, the government's of Russia and France are on the verge of agreeing a financial compensation package for two Mistral helicopter carrier warships which Paris refused to hand over because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

According to RIA Novosti sources close to the deal, France has previously offered approximately 800 million euros compensation but Moscow is reportedly insisting it must be 1.1 billion euros.

The final compensation figure has not been revealed but the report stated the compensation deal will be completed in July.

Russian military officials claimed in June that the contract between the Russian and French defence ministries provided for the transfer of the sophisticated technology involved in the construction and operation of the vessels; that France had already handed over the blueprints for the Mistrals and that Moscow would build it's own versions based on the French Mistral design.

Dmitry Gorenburg, a senior researcher at Harvard and expert on Russian military modernization said the transfer of such technology was of "the biggest concern for NATO".

The ships, the most advanced of their kind in the world, would constitute a powerful new military tool for President Putin and enable Russia's navy to conduct major land invasions.

However designing and constructing the new vessels will take Russia several years.

France repays EUR 950 mln to Russia on cancelled Mistral deal - media - read on - uatoday.tv
According to Russian and French sources, all financial issues concerning the Mistral warships have been settled

UNIAN: France paid EUR 950 million to Russia as a result of termination of the Mistral contract, TASS news agency reports citing the French newspaper L'Opinion.

"After the decision to terminate the contract [on the supply of] Mistrals, France has already paid Russia EUR 950 million. These payments were made under the "urgent scheme," without the approval of the relevant governing authorities. The Council of Ministers will consider this issue at a meeting on August 26. Then this issue of payments will be forwarded to the parliament," reads the article by a prominent French military analyst Jean-Dominique Merchet in L'Opinion, TASS reports.

Merchet wrote that, according to the available information, "the total amount of payments to Russia" will be much less than the 2 billion (euros), which was previously reported by Le Canard Enchaîné newspaper.

The initial EUR 893 million "was repaid by Coface, a French foreign trade insurance company," says Merche. The remaining costs – covering the crew training and refurbishment of one of Russia's ports - will be paid by the "French state treasury." The size of this compensation should amount to EUR 50-60 million, according to Merchet.
