Foxconn to Build $10 Billion Apple Manufacturing Plant in Maharashtra, India [Video]

Posted May 10, 2016 at 4:43am by iClarified ·

Foxconn has reportedly selected Maharashtra as the location for a new $10 billion manufacturing plant in India that will exclusively make Apple devices, reports The Economic Times.

Foxconn is said to be looking for 1,200 acres of land in the state and has already found two or three possible locations. The deal is close to being signed but negotiations are still ongoing with the government.

Sources also tell the site that it will take about 18 months for Foxconn to set up the plant once a deal is signed.

Founder Terry Gou previously said that he was looking to set up 10-12 facilities in various Indian states including factories and data centers by 2020.

Take a look at the video below for more details...

This is good, it shows our intentions of evolving from a factor driven society to an efficiency driven society..
We should forge our way through to become an industrial power house and follow the Chinese model.

.
Foxconn is basically an assembling house.
This is good news for both India and East Asia.
Now more components will be bought from East Asia and China will have more value-added manufacturing. The question lies in implementation which is notorious in India.

And apparently, Foxconn is changing its strategy in China, investing more in cloud technology and likes as opposed to focusing on low-end assembling. Still, they continue to provide thousands of lows-skilled jobs with $800+ per month and free accommodation.

Foxconn (Honhai) is in China for over a quarter century now. It is now moving assembly plants to cheap-labor destinations. This is good news because, Foxconn's presence is not becoming less in China, but, as you said, it is moving more knowledge-intensive operations in China.

I also invests in China in industries as varied as electric cars and advanced TFT-LCD panels.

This is good, I think, for both investment-hungry cheap-labor destinations and manufacturing scale-up destinations.

Foxconn operates a server-assembly plant in the US.

FYI cloud is very much establishing itself in India. So while India is establishing itself in manufacturing sector, China is establishing itself in service sector. However as we have seen in recent past service sector when asked to perform independently, fared very poor compared to Indian service sector which has been consistently established as a market leader in this segment. All the best for Chinese service sector performing internationally.

TFT and LCDs are becoming old technology nowadays. India has already the high end segment covered but it lacked the punch in hardware sector which it is getting now.

Nope..
Do you know "Made in China 2025"?A ten-year plan.
And last year Government focused on "Internet+" and innovation.
So that sentence "China is establishing itself in service sector" may be right in some ways but not a priority.

You can see service sector data and innovation data here↓↓(My name in Quora:五元)

  • In terms of innovation,
Now,let me just refer to these things:

3D printing,Robot industry&innovation(patents account for 25%+ of the world),Crystal Chemistry,UAV,Solar Power industry----These all are China's dominant industries.I just said casually.

The following graph can prove China's advantage in innovation.

We don't need to follow Chinese model at all, that's government protected approach. Not preferred. Rather we should be focusing on German based madel where heavy engineering is the core of business apart from banking and finance being pillers of economy. We have already two segments, we need one more of engineering sector in excellence. It will give enough depth to our free & open globalized market while generating jobs with it.

As I said previously and probably you didn't get my massage, it's government driven strategy in China. For establishing itself as market leader in services you need to build from scratch slowly slowly as knowledge building is not like building a factory or a physical infrastructure. It takes a hell a lot time. We have learnt it from long back being we speak international language pretty better(not English but other lime French, Spanish, German, all other major languages). Learning languages is the first step in globalization which is lacking in Chinese society. And the thing which you mentioned of government announcement, I had heard this from Indian government when a was hardly in 7-8 standard. You people have a lot to do catch-up as we have to do in manufacturing.

The difference is, your government is not known for efficiency or delivering policy targets.

China's private sector is more competitive and innovative than that of India and is already producing much larger value than Indian private enterprises.

By just simply looking at global IT and tech brands of China and India, you will see the huge gap.

That is a huge investment it will create thousands of jobs but still we need a national tax regime to attract higher FDI.

True things are bueracratic and cumbersome but this new govt has already put India higher in ease of country in which to do business, still much more needs to be done but the Modi govt is pro-business.
