Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a review meeting regarding the establishment of markets along Pakistan’s borders with Afghanistan and Iran today.

The meeting was briefed on steps taken at the Federal and provincial levels for the establishment of proposed border markets, to provide improved business facilities, trade promotion, and employment opportunities to the local population.

The Prime Minister directed to fast track the establishment of Border Markets along Pakistan’s frontier with Afghanistan and Iran. He said that it would provide job opportunities to local people and also curb smuggling.
PM Imran Khan said that establishing these markets is vital for the prosperity of the population living in border areas of Balochistan and merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting was apprised of 18 proposed border markets, out of which four markets will be established under the pilot project.

Afghanistan is a landlocked country and we can benefit from it. Its ok to trade with india, give them dirt cheap pink salt, make kartarpur for sikhs but no no to business with Afghanistan, why?
If we keep with such mentality, iran will take over as main supplier and exporter to Afghanistan and we will keep begging arabs or US or china for loans.

We need to control Afghan border trade.. as for india we need to stop that pink salt.. they already have stollen hundereds of thousands of tons if I am not wrong..

As far as I have heard fencing is 80% completed while work on forts and posts is still going on..

They would buy our stuff. Without entering pakistan. This is not a bad thing. I know your feelings and I share the same. But Afghanistan should be treated as a market. Make them dependent on us for everything. Only that's how they stay within their limits. Too much indepence from Pakistan results in hostility.
And besides pakistan need new markets without afghan entering. Border markets are a good way, it would be like Sunday Market or numaish, where people bring whole sale stuff and the Afghans buy them in bulk to sale in their country.

We cannot choose our neighbours so we are stuck with them. I dislike Afghans as I have witnessed their racism and hatred for Pakistan despite being educated in Pak.

Govt already making 8 billion a month with partial fenceing and border Management I think potential is around 40-50 per month with both countries about 600 billion Rs per yr roughly 3-4 billion $$
