QUETTA: At least 11 people were killed and 27 others were injured when a blast ripped through the Baacha Khan Chowk area of Shahrah-e-Iqbal, a senior police official said Thursday.

The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Quetta confirmed the death toll, adding that details regarding the bomb attack would be divulged after further investigation.

Witnesses said children and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were among those injured.

This is the third blast in the same area which houses a shopping plaza and a market and is generally a busy area.

The police, FC, bomb disposal squad (BDS) and rescue teams reached the scene, cordoning off the area and shifting the injured to hospitals.

While the intensity of the blast is yet unknown, it was heard a long way off.

Express News correspondent Irfan Rana reported a two to three-foot deep crater where the blast occurred.

Thirteen cars, including FC vehicles were damaged in the blast.

Bomb attacks in the violence-stricken province have been on the rise.

Just a day ago, police recovered a cache of arms and explosives buried at the Eastern Bypass.

Note: This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.

Only a day ago we captured a huge amount of explosive material, weaponry and detonators. Today there is a blast. Some heavy failures here we have had.

Its not that easy for security forces yaar. Police has to be lucky very time, terrorists have to be lucky just once.

I cannot help but notice that things in Quetta are deteriorating further and further and government inaction is a major reason for this. Raisani's downfall comes partly because of his failure to curb the terror and target killing situation in this province.

Its long been the case that target killing has constantly been occurring in Quetta which is specifically directed against the Hazara community which is pre-dominantly Shia. The failure of the government to control the violence and stop these attacks that occur almost on a daily basis are an issue but they have greatly polarized this city both ethnically and of course the sectarian aspect remains.

For long Balochistan has been considered the safest place for Hindus. This is being proven false. In the past 1-2 weeks atleast 2 Hindus have been murdered, 1 of them a doctor.

If we cannot control our land, ensure the safety of our citizens we will have no power to advocate our interests on the global arena. Its sad and on account of major failures at home we are being seen by the world negatively. It is destroying our reputation.

Well Pakistanis are busy right now asking for the murderers of Shahzeb Khan (first murdered of the century in pakistan)once they get justice for him then they will talk about others since these and 1000s of others killed weren't the sons of Deputy superintendent police Karachi who could afford to live right next to land lords and have influential Politicians as Relatives in GOP this can wait.

But i do see most active in that thread asking for justice as usual missing from all other threads where a lot more then one lost his or her life.

Point is simple you wanna fix the security situation you cant pick and chose who gets the justice and who doesn't cause they were poor or a Minority.

A tit-for-tat in response for the beheading of one of our jawans by the Pakistanis!!

So you are admitting that this Terrorist act was carried out BY India.
