They aren't shifting GHQ but thousands of families as well. Islamabad is already made into a concrete jungle with deforestation and unsustainable development. We don't want to militarize Islamabad, even if they want to, just make GHQ in the vicinity , not in the center of Islamabad, surrounded by civilian population. Make something like Pentagon instead of dedicated sectors for each service which houses families and all. If you ask me, no one in Islamabad is supportive of Army's decision nor are they in favor of military's presence here.

Well if they gonna shift GHQ to Islamabad what will they do to the old one???

Make a University there :D :D :D

NUIT = National University of Information and Technology
Sir society launch hoge university banna keh faida nai!

It's not there decision to make. You don't let public decide National Security Matters.

It's not a national security matter, shifting GHQ to a civilian capital itself is a cause of concern. They are using tax payers money, not from their own pockets. We have every right to question them. Even though I have some military background, I can't be their blind follower like most of the guys on this forum are. Every time we question the military, we are told it's a national security matter, if they are so concerned about my security, I should be the first one to know. They have never been held accountable and that's a national security matter, not me questioning their militarization of a national capital. My future shouldn't be discussed in barracks.

GHQ doesn't exist in space or some other place. They are but yes place should be a little out of population

That's what I'm talking about, don't drag it into civilian population. It's not just the army moving to Islamabad but thousands of families as well and they are to be housed close by. By doing that, more than 30% of the capital territory is allotted to the military which is wrong. Again, the military and civilians can't live side by side due to different life styles. As much as the military is threatened by it's closeness to civilian population, we don't want to suffer just because they feel insecure. GHQ belongs to Pindi and Pindi belongs to GHQ, keep it that way.

That I agree with we need to build all such buildings away from population in fact few acres around that building should be also bought and never let any population or office build there.

That is true, recently I used a friend to khilao a officer for a tender; system is good when it benefits you
That's pretty much known modus operandi in tenders, once I was with a friend who was, discussing a deal of supply of several dozen A.C and walkthrough gates with head of procurement of certain department and he was just telling us how good sight seeing was in Thailand and Malaysia, and when we left that place I asked him, what the hell we have discussed with him regarding business and he said, abey Us ko Thailand aur Malaysia ka visa chiyeh,He managed a good 2 weeks tour for that fat kim and won the tender with his desired price tag.

Whats the strategic need ?are the required to get close interaction with gov ? I dont think it is required ... if it is a strategic moves then it should be good to go ... probably could also save us in terms of SAM coverage and other facility sharing by PM house and GHQ as in case of war command and control is with these two instituions ... specially when things get worst to the level of use of nukes then this could be really handy ...
In current situation the Indians will not b targeting their man in PM house.

This is really waste of money. We can build as many headquarters as we like when we are developed and strong nation. Focus should be on developing every single technology on our own.
There should be a building like Pentagon or something where they should house every intelligence agency ... Most of the attacks happens due to zero coordination between agencies. All agencies, civil or military, must be house together for better coordination.

The project, worth an estimated Rs 80 billion, was initiated by former president retired General Pervez Musharraf in September 2004, but actual work on the site began around 2007.

Sources said that by 2008, nearly 10 per cent of the work on Defence Complex Islamabad had been completed. The project was to be completed in three phases: the first two phases involved the shifting of Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force facilities to the new location. The last phase involved relocating the Ministry of Defense, Joint Staff Headquarters and General Headquarters.

Sources said that around 2,500 acres of land were acquired for the project. The new GHQ was to be constructed on 99 acres and 20 acres each were reserved for the Defence Ministry and Joint Staff Headquarters.

This covers Sectors E-10, D-11 and an area north of sector E-10, in the foothills of the Margallas.

These buildings would house different facilities, including apartments, houses, schools and hospitals for more than 17,000 employees of all grades who were originally supposed to be shifted from Rawalpindi to Islamabad.

It was Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who had decided to shift GHQ to Islamabad in a cabinet meeting on March 29, 1972. This move was first discussed after the 1965 Indo-Pak war, when proper communication could not be established between the three services during Indian attacks.

Rs80b in 2004 which mean now it will cost Rs250b.

As if we are a first world country and can afford such luxuries. What's wrong with the GHQ in Pindi?

Choos lo khoon humara...Khane ko roti nahi hai magar three piece suit pehn kar show zaroor marni hai.
Any decision to construct a new GHQ will not be made lightly or without thorough deliberation on the pros and cons of making such a move, and the decision will be made because it serves institutional interests, not personal interests.
We have shining examples of such decisions from Augusta deals to whatnot...Even canteen contracts in the army are not given on merit. Army is not clean, people take benifits from tenders, contracts and kickbacks on deals, it's the taxpayers who are feeding these officers but if we question their actions, we are told to keep quiet or get ready to be labeled as traitors.
