What's new

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe suffered cardiac arrest after being shot in the chest during a speech, and the suspect was arrested

He didn't deserve to die, at least not like this. This will only make him a martyr and rally the right wing nutjobs.

Brother @MH.Yang is correct in my opinion that the right wingers are maybe behind his assassination.

Personally, I think as long as we find out who forced Shinzo Abe to resign when his support rate was the highest, we can know who killed him.

As far as I know, before Shinzo Abe resigned, his prestige on the right wing in Japan was unparalleled, and no right-wing politician could force him to resign.

I also think it is meaningless for us to guess who the murderer is without any evidence. We might as well directly infer the direction of Japanese politics after Shinzo Abe's death.

China's rare earth reserves account for only 25% of the world's rare earth reserves, so how does China monopolize the rare earth industry?
Production technology and patent rights, of course.
The same is true of the lithium battery industry.
Vietnam has rare earth reserves. Many other other countries too. Just wait. Not long ago most chinese sat on bicycles.

If you does politics you will inevitably step on someone’s foot. If not rightists, leftists, centrists, facists then radical environmentalists. Nothing special. However Abe had retired from politics the assassination makes no sense.

Yeah it is senseless to kill a retired old guy like this. He had zero power or weight to bear on anything important.

But the killer was not exactly a "balanced" individual either - a nutcase pretty much. They found bombs in his house.

Some of you guys may or may not remember The Japanese Red Army back in the day who carried our public assassinations like this and attacks in the subway and also plane hijacks. Before my time but it did happen. Shoko Asahara and his group Aum Shinrikyo carried out Sarin gas attacks in the Tokyo subway.

Aum Shinrikyo

There are extremists in Japan who belong to the ideologue section of society...

Nuts exist everywhere. Japan is no exception. From my opinion Japan is a very weird country. It’s much asian if you look at the people and behaviors but they are very much of the west. The assassin is said a former member of the Japanese armed forces I think that explains a bit.

Maybe this. Abe was very keen to revive Japan economy and military. He wanted to lift up the restrictions imposed on Japan after surrender. He wanted Japan to return to the former glory in the 1980s. His mission failed. There is an interesting book to read: why nations failed. Japan is one of them. Many said the decline had the cause in the US currency practice. Actually it’s because Japan failed to arrest the population collapse. Last not least the rise of China makes depression among Japanese right group. There are much frustrations among Japanese army.

First of all, we need to understand that rare earth is divided into two kinds, one is light rare earth, the other is heavy rare earth.

Light rare earth has seven elements, the main component is cerium. Light rare earths are widely distributed, with large reserves in China, Mongolia, Brazil, Vietnam and other countries. China's reserves account for 23% of the world's rare earth reserves.

The main component of heavy rare earth is yttrium. Heavy rare earths are mainly used in satellite, missile, aircraft engine, laser and other industries. The reserves of heavy rare earths are small, mainly distributed in Jiangxi and Anhui provinces of China. China's heavy rare earth reserves account for 92% of the global reserves.

China now monopolizes the global rare earth industry. Whether Brazil, Australia, Canada or the USA, almost all their rare earth mines are mined by Chinese enterprises. That is because China has monopolized the rare earth mining technology and patents.

More than a decade ago, China used to sell rare earths cheaply. But now China has monopolized this industry and controlled the pricing power.

China has the responsibility to sell rare earths, especially heavy rare earths, to the world. This is one of the important conditions for the USA and other countries to agree to China's accession to the WTO.

China's sale of heavy rare earths is not only to fulfill the agreement, but also to support the development of human civilization.

BTW: Not long ago, Chinese people sat on bicycles. Now Chinese people drive the coolest electric cars. This is our pride, not our shame.

Ok I don’t know the market share of those metals, good to know. Thanks for your support of human civilization. Seriously we live in a globalized world every country should follow the rules. Vietnam, Brazil control the coffee market. If we stop exporting the office workers will starve. And if Putin just follows your doings, ending the war lifting grains and fertilizer exports then would be fine. Millions would not die.

There are many people who say Abe is retired and old and doesn't matter, these people are uninformed.
1. Abe wasn't forced to resign, he resigned with an excuse of health because he didn't want to handle the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. He passed the throne to Suga, his closest aide, and Suga was very unpopular because he's old and makes some dubious political decision (removal of scientists due to difference in political view). So the throne was passed to Fumio Kishida.
2. Despite his removal, Abe controls the largest faction in Japan's LDP, and he's free to advance his own candidates inside the July 10 election. There's even a rumor that he plans to run again in the 3rd times.
3. He was feuding with the current PM Fumio Kishida on various issues, because Kishida doesn't go full blown war on China like Abe and Kishida doesn't like Abenomics.
4. Abe's killer, Tetsuya Yamagami, explained his reason for killing Abe was because his mother got bankrupted by one of his related religious cults. This is legitimate because Abe has connection to Nippon Kaigi, shinto cult, Church of Happy Science, a loony christian cult and Unification Church, a far right in Korea.

Kinda dangerous that some chinese members now think Abe was a good guy somehow, is this the influence of state propaganda since both the CCP and Xi send condolences?

In fact, China, like most western countries, is a staunch supporter of global economic integration.

The core contradiction between China and the USA is that China hopes that the world will move towards multipolarization and avoid and hedge the economic crisis that comes every more than ten years through a multipolar economy and currency, but Americans are unwilling to give up the benefits from the unipolar world.

As for Putin, this is actually the only option for Russians. When a strong nation is in a sense of insecurity, they will inevitably choose a strong person as a leader. NATO forced the Russians to choose Putin.
In fact, in 2013, when NATO manipulated the Ukrainian opposition party to overthrow the democratically elected President Viktor yarukovic, it was doomed that war would break out between Ukraine and Russia in the future.

Politicians have only standpoints and abilities, not good people. A good man cannot be a good politician.

Abe has no good qualities both as a man and a politician.
1. For economic, Abenomics ruined Japan. Extreme financialization, low corporate tax, high consumption tax for people, ministers were encouraged to be anti-IT.
2. For military, Abe focus on spending more on US bases and weapons, he neglects Japan's domestic weapon manufacturing.
3. For society, he hired net support to muddy Japan's political sphere and embezzle national fund for personal projects.
4. As a man, he has no children despite re-marriage.

If Japan is under this guy for a few more years, Japan would be finished.

The failure of ampere economics is not the incompetence of Shinzo Abe. The core reason is that Japan has no economic sovereignty.

The basis of Ampere's economics is certainly correct, and quantitative easing of yen is indeed the only way for Japan's economy to rise again. However, the continuous suppression of the US dollar, the intervention of the US government, the rise of China's economy, the deterioration of the external environment and other reasons led to the fact that Abe's quantitative easing policy did not increase Japan's domestic demand.

No that's wrong, Abenomics was built in order to weaken Japan's economy while only stuffing the top guys with money.
See this site for more information on why Abenomics failed:

EDIT: Forgot to add that Abenomics is POLITICAL in Japan, despite its failures, Abe blocked all attempts to criticize it.

Now that he's gone, it can finally be put in the Backburners. Now we can see a revitalization of Japan.
