Have we seen Lt. Gen. Zaheer ever (maybe I missed) speaking on the media? Why would DG-ISI speak on the media? Its not his personality (soft spoken or otherwise) but his position that makes anti-state corrupt politician's pants wet.
He is pick of the Government ...not of Military !

Got to say, I wasn't expecting this.

But Gen Raheel "Bobby" Sharif is making all the right noises, and I fully trust him to take the Army forward in capable fashion.

Next up on the cards, a comprehensive audit of the C4I program implemented by Kayani, his brother's exploits and the construction boom in Pindi. Mark this post, alot of people will be running with their tails between their legs.

Seems like a diabolic logic here, and yet again interpreting the picture without keeping the context in mind. If you are commenting on the picture of new appointee than keep in mind please that he is speaking to media as a DG-Sindh Rangers when he served in that capacity - as you can see the officer behind him wearing the beret with rangers logo - and not as DG-ISI. He is NOT DG-ISI yet as he is taking charge on 4th October. So, once again Mr. Ali, Generals have never made corrupt people wet in pants...rather they have always joined them in corruption.........they have only nurtured them. I hope and pray that he proves me wrong; my prayers are with him and you in this regard. Godspeed Pakistan

I wish him the best of luck for his new post and hope that he would use all that he can to help pakistan. I remember many werent happy here when raheel sharif was appointed and so was zaheer ul islam but both have done a good job especially raheel sharif so lets see how his office term turns out. Hopefully he will do a very good job.

I dont have any info on him so how do those who have ties with the army see his appointment? Is it the right choice?

Well who were you expecting ?

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has appointed Rizwan Akhtar, considered a close ally of the army chief, to head the country's powerful intelligence agency, the military's press wing said on Monday.

The head of the Inter-Services Intelligence spy agency occupies one of the most important posts in Pakistan, at the intersection of domestic politics, the war on militancy and Pakistan's foreign relations.

Although the ISI officially reports to the prime minister, in reality it is controlled by the army chief, General Raheel Sharif.

Akhtar's previous job was head of the Paramilitary Rangers in southeastern Sindh province. He is considered to have extensive experience of counterinsurgency from a previous posting in the border region of South Waziristan.

He will take over as head of the ISI on October 1.

"He (Akhtar) is a horribly straight guy, all black and white," said a serving military official who has served with Akhtar. :what::what:

"He has served in a place like Karachi while remaining neutral and apolitical and has extensive experience of counterinsurgency and counterterrorism. He was the obvious choice.

What exactly is his background? Like what village, linguistic group, tribe etc? And I believe such aspects should be looked at for such posts. I believe martial races should be given the top army posts. Now a lot of you might not agree with my comment, but remember how General Musharraf(non-martial) had turned Pakistan army into an almost hijra force. I believe he personally feared the terrorists. It was general Kayani(martial Gakhar clan) who restored army's lost glory by inflicting a crushing defeat on the Taliban in Swat and Bajaur.

Best news i guess. an apolitical SPY MASTER. our core issue currently are insurgency and foreign intervention.

no need for ISI to get involved in politics.

Six Major Generals including DG Rangers Sindh have been promoted to Lt. Generals.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – According to the Inter-service Public Relations (ISPR) six major generals of Pakistan Army have been promoted to lieutenant general’s status whereas former Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh has been appointed as DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) today.

The officers promoted to the rank of lieutenant general include Major General Rizwan Akhtar, Major General Halal Hussain, Major General Ghayyur Mahmood, Major General Nazir Butt, Major General Navid Mukhtar and Major General Hidayatur Rehman.

According to the ISPR Lt. General Rizwan Akhtar has been appointed as ISI’s new director general whereas Lt. General Hilal Hussain has been appointed Corps Commander Mangla, Lt. General Ghayyur Mahmood Corps Commander Gujranwala, Lt. General Hidayatur Rehman Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt. General Navid Mukhtar Corps Commander Karachi and Lt. In the coming few months, many of the lieutenant generals of Pakistan army would be retiring including the current DG ISI Zaheerul Islam.

By the way He was DG Rangers Sindh not DG Rangers and I think DG Rangers Punjab also just got promoted to Lt General
